We are just waiting for the check to come in, but it is marked as sold on the lot and we have shook on the deal. And since verbal contracts are binding in Idaho- We have a car!

We got a 1999 Lincoln Town Car with only 43K miles on it! I am so happy and excited!

Nora voted for the car by falling asleep in the backseat within a block of the dealership!

Sherri-

How often do you go to the cabin? Can you take off the insurance for the truck except for when you are actually going to be driving it?

We, unfortunately, need three cars for the two of us. More to maintain, more to license, more to insure. DH puts so many miles on when he's working that he took over my little Mazda Protege - a wonderful car that has over 290,000 miles on it now. We also need a 4WD pickup for when we're at the cabin - terrible mud roads over there, plus we have to haul lumber and huge water tanks. And, I need a vehicle for my business - I could use my car and a small trailer to go to shows, but now DH is driving it. So, we bought a van that I take the seats out of to load up for shows. The car, even with all those miles on it gets over 30 mpg. My van gets about 20-22, and the pickup (a V-10) gets about 15 empty, or 10 when it's towing or loaded with lumber. I would love to downscale to two vehicles, but I don't know how we can.

We get to bring it home sometime later this week. DHL picked up the settlement paperwork today, should overnight to the insurance company, so I am hoping for a check by Wednesday.

I agree, Meg! What kind of cars do all of you girls drive? We've got a dark blue Jeep Liberty that is busting at the seams with 3 kids (and 2 dogs, when they come along). It's too small for us, but otherwise it has treated us well. And it better because it's the first new car we've ever had, and the payment makes me cringe every month!

That's so funny...I was expecting maybe a Toyota Matrix or a Jeep. A Lincoln is definitely not the kind of car I pictured your family driving around the mountains of Montana. But I do love a V8, even with gas prices as high as they are. I have fond memories of blowing through Wyoming in my 1977 Monaco (that had a 400 V8). That was in the summer of 2001, when gas prices suddenly spiked up to 2.99/gallon. It happened right in the middle of our cross country trip, and we thought it was some kind of joke the first time we pulled into a gas station and saw those prices. The performance was worth it though. I hope it turns out to be a good, reliable car for you!

The only thing I am worried about is the gas mileage since it is a V8- YIKES!
