For the past few months,we have been barely making it...living paycheck to paycheck. Our biggest problem was a legal issue with my hubby's ex-wife and a collection agency that costs us over $5000. Well, that may mean not paying on the cc's or just paying something to keep them at bay so we could keep the lights on and food in Charlie, but you know, I vowed never to live like this again and that this is just a hump in the road of life. We actually came out $10 ahead this month!!! I just wanted to encourage all of us out their struggling that we can make it...it just takes time and we will get there. Chins up!!!

Things are tough now but we will make it!!!

Cheers,
Heather

I KNOW many of us our struggling, yet many people I see still try to put on a certain "JONES" face...looking like they have it all and are better than the next person, yet they are struggling worse than anyone I have ever met. I think for me, this is all about being raw and honest with myself, therefor letting go of expectations I can't live up to.

I want certain things in life (material things) but I will not compromise my integrity nor who I truly am to get them. I found out when I started at the job I just left that one woman had a complete break down and quit right before I started. She is now living in, I want to say Florida or Georgia, in a 1 bedroom "shack" (their words) and they keep calling her nuts!! I think she is courageous and sounds interesting!!! I later talked with a good friend of hers and found out she had saved faithfully for 15 years to retire (and she retired quite well off working in a normal 9-5 job), she lived in a small rented house and lived with just the necessities, so she could up and quit on that day she had enough. She was relentlessly picked at at work for wearing the same suits and driving an older beat up Jeep(gal after my own heart!!!) It was mostly woman who did the picking but she moved up the ladder faster than any of them. She had a plan and didn't want to die at a desk. What a gal!!!

I told hubby I might wear suits to work but I will always be his flip flop, cowgirl boots, jeans and t-shirt wearing gal!!!

I know this got a little off subject....but what else do you expect from me!!! LOL....

Cheers,
Heather

I think many of us are struggling. I come from an upper middle class family BUT like I said I'm on poverty line myself. I am learning to not try to live the life like my friends do....coffees etc and when I make do or save I'm happier:) I also live in a lil town that things are $$ but I hear you about being creative. Outside the box. Reuse with a new use!

It is funny...I feel I am in a very creative mode right now and I can't wait to spruce up the old apartment when we get there. Today, we were able to roll over some IRA funds that will at least get us through to the 1st and yes, I can even pay the CC's in full- so I am one payment closer to being out of debt!!! YIPPEEE!!!!

I just found out that my neighbor in Texas' Mom is not doing well so I plan on making her something special so she doesn't have to at least worry about one less meal and I saw on Rachel Ray that she made dog biscotti, so I am going to make some for her dogs!! How perfect!!!

I am actually in a time of plenty, I just have to prioritize and also, take a quiet moment to see the bountifullness!!

Cheers,
Heather

Lean times are truly a blessing in disguise! They make us find creative ways to stretch things. We learn to make gifts and even "invent" recipes, we learn to appreciate the things we have and realize even more that "things" aren't what matter. When I look back at our leanest times in life, it was during those times I was the most creative and happy. Wish you all blessings in times of lean and of plenty.

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda

Very True Rebekka!!! Right now, I am on simple, sustainable mode- what do we need to get by- food, diapers, gas, pay the car, etc...that is all we NEED- the rest can wait- well, at least a month until I can get ahead. The funny thing is we were sitting here nickel and diming our budget and realized we have a share certificate and IRA that we can dip into if necessary. See-it all works out when you stay positive!!!

I too believe great things are awaiting in Texas. I can feel it in the pit of my tummy!!!! Small acts of kindness await- both to give and receive!!!

Cheers,
Heather

Heather-
Attitude is everything and yours is right on! It will get smoother and until then you have what counts. I loved what you said about the difference a meal from friends can make during times like these...it is the little kindnesses that get us through and I am wishing you many in Texas. Help in many forms is out there once you open yourself up to receiving it and the quicker you get on your feet again the quicker you can lend a hand.
Love- Rebekka

That is true farmgirl right there!! HA!!! I grew up in a family where everything was "fine" and nothing was ever discussed and a crisis was like a major drama, so I try to tackle things head on. I can only do what I can do today. I used to be a worry wart and I was so worried about not making payments, etc...and I accept responsibility for being in debt but I also accept that I am hardworking, honest, have always paid my debts at some point and I have to remind myself of that. I have had perfect credit up until now and I honestly am not worried.

Cheers to all,
Heather

Heather,
I appreciate your being so candid. It's hard for alot of us farmgirls to admit when we struggle. We try to get things on pure grit, and many times it works, but we have to be able to re-invent when it doesn't. Way to go. Your uplifting attitude is an inspiration.

That's the thing- if more people were honest about their situations and people took the time to be concerned and help, if they can, whether it be that one cooked meal that gets a family through a tough week or watching the kids so the parent(s) can work or study or whatever, just think how much happier we all could be.

I mean it sucks we have credit card debt and that the crazy ex ruined us financially for awhile but I plan on keeping things positive. The cc's are already ringing off phone off the hook and I have been a dedicated, on time payer for years. So when I finally make that last payment and close certain accounts and they ask why, well, I will remind them when I was having a tough go of things, they didn't want to deal, so good bye to them!!!

I am hoping to find a little part time job in Texas since we are moving. Something that would be enough to just throw money at our debt for about 6-8 months. That would still enable me to go to school full time. We shall see but we all shall get through this.

I am a good person and things are not going to get me down!!!

Cheers,
Heather

Oh Heather, what a great attitude you have through this tough time. And you're right, if we just take it one step at a time we can do it. I hesitated making this comments for fear of bragging when so many of our gurlfriends are stretched financially, but I want to enourage everyone to keep putting one foot in front of the other. I just paid off my last cc this week. After 2 years I am finally out of debt, except for my house. It is such a relief to have some breathing room.

There is light at the end of the tunnel - just keep moving toward it.
