Posted - Mar 04 2008 : 2:31:54 PM and said "Hey, I'd like to leave tonight and go to the cabin and get that roof on while I'm laid off. Can you be ready to leave when I get home? Oh, and if we leave tonight, you'll have to go pick up the roofing (16' metal roofing sheets) before I get home." So, in the last hour I have: - Gone to the post office to cancel mail - Gone by the lady's where we get eggs to cancel eggs - Put my merchandise on "unavailable" status on Shop the Frontier - Put my half.com merchandise on vacation hold. - Packed food to take - Gathered a ton of yarn to take to make hats while I'm gone. - Called around about roofing - found out the place he wanted me to go pick it up at, wouldn't have it ready for 3 days. Found another place to buy it (cheaper). - Paid all the bills for the next two weeks - Set up transfers at the bank for the proper days - Found out the weather conditions for the trip and the road condition of our mud road when we get there. - Cancelled our anniversary reservations for the beach - Let my cousin know I'm not going to be here (she is coming out from Missouri = haven't seen her in 20 years - luckily she wasn't just coming to see me!) - Caught the laundry up - E-mailed my daughter that we're not going to make grandson's birthday party on Saturday. - Got new batteries for the camera.
I'm sure there was more, but the gist is....... "Sure honey, no problem, I'll just grab a toothbrush and let's go!" Sometimes I wonder if they can see beyond the end of their own nose!!!

Posted - Mar 04 2008 : 2:52:51 PM Yes, we already have purchased the windmill and we have the base in the ground (no small undertaking!). The batteries are really sensitive to temperature and in Montana you have a wide range of temperature, so we have to build a little room in our shop that's really well insulated to keep the batteries in. We will have a combinatin of wind and solar power - haven't purchased the solar panels yet. But we have plenty of wind for the windmill - two of our neighbors bought the same windmill we have and one is having really good luck with it - plenty of power and the other neighbor didn't put his up high enough and it's in the trees, so it really depends on the placement a lot.
Here's a picture of the cabin and the shop - shop on the right.

Posted - Mar 04 2008 : 2:47:39 PM Okay, one step at a time. It's good news. That wind power thing fascinates me. Will you have a wind mill? Have you posted about that somewhere on the forum? My dh says we could power the farmhouse with wind. We do have a lot of that for sure!

Posted - Mar 04 2008 : 2:43:24 PM Well, the roof is actually on his SHOP at the cabin - but we have to have the roof before we can build the battery room, and we have to have the battery room before we can install the wind/solar system, so it is worth it.

Posted - Mar 04 2008 : 2:39:38 PM But if it gets that new roof on the cabin, well, it's probably well worth it. ;)
