I'm interested in creating a blog. I've already read the how's and best's, and that stuff, but I still have a question. How exactly does a blog work? I always click on other blogs when it is posted in the thread...but how do other people find it? This is my idea..
I know I've repeated the story of my log~on name a couple of times, but for people that don't know...
"Chicken necker" is what the local (meaning born and bred) people call people that move to the Eastern Shore from "the other side". They basically had a laid back, agricultural and waterman society. Then the Westerners started moving in, building housing developments, strip malls, etc after the bridge was built. You know, what Americans do best! I chose that name because that's what I am. While I'm not quite a city girl, I did move over here into a housing development.(no veggie gardens or clothesline allowed here, buddy!)
Anyway, what I want to highlight in a blog is the way of life that is rapidly deteriorating, the people that have eeked out thier lives here for generations, what commercialism has done. (PERDUE! for one. I'll save that for another rant, once I've collected more photos and information! ) And basically, encourage others to help save the bay and the eastern shore.
How do people find Blogs? I mean I've seen them posted here, but how does the vitual community hit on it?

I've been blogging for about a year and a half. For me, most of my readers come from my comments on other peoples' blogs. Also, people add one another onto their blogrolls, or lists of blogs they personally like on the sides of their blogs. Things like blog parties (5minutesformoms.com) and blog rings help. Including your blog site in your signatures may help as well. (This is my first posting on MJF. Hope that helps!)

Tammy is right- Googling a certain topic will bring up blogs as well. The problem is sometimes you can get millions of results to a Google search. So the other thing factored in is how many times your blog is visited. If it gets a lot of clicks...aka visits...then your blog will move up in the ranks of the search engines.
I really like the Google based "Blogspot Blogger" blog.

Hey Sherry,
The way I understand it is that when you search something on Google or whatever, anything related to that search - even blogs- comeup. I 've searched for things and saw sunshine's blog and other farmgirl's blogs on here come up. You can also put your blog url at the bottom of your e-mails (signature) and on here. So when anyone wants info on saving the bay or enviromentals issues, etc.. pertaining to the bay, your blog will be included in the search results. I hope this helps some.
