We are entering what I like to call "Mud Season". That odd time that isn't quite winter, and not spring. You can't plant anything because the ground is still frozen in most places and where it isn't frozen, it is ankle or calf deep in mud. Getting stuck on dirt roads becomes a real possibility.
My favorite activity is sitting in the sunshine and working on crafts. I love throwing open a window and smell the fresh air. As it gets closer to planting time, I would normally plan a garden, but this year since we are moving I am going to be packing boxes!

I love mud =D and today I heard robins singing and my tulips are poking up. yay!
My two bigger dogs are not so bad, just their feet, but the Pomeranian comes in from doing his business a total mud ball. Blech! I end up dousing him and toweling him off all the time, poor little Pook

Alee, thanks for the idea. Mr. Timmy's legs and tummy hair is about to get a lot shorter come mud season!He's a long haired dachshund and good grief does he get a mess!

i've got a house full of puddle jumpers here! i had one wallowing infront of the post office the other day.

Mary Jane- to combat the washing 3x a day syndrome with my long haired dog, I bought a good set of dog clippers and shave her as soon as it gets messy out! :D

What do I do, wipe mud off the dogs feet, put Timmy the long haired one in the sink and spray him off, oh about three times a
day, then mop the floor and start all over again!! Frannie, your honey hunk is so right mud really does have a season all it's own! But, the one thing that makes it ok, spring will be coming!!
We have a way to go before mud season here.

Here in Wisconsin we have 2 mud seasons. I don't look forward to either one. One is between winter and spring, the other between fall and winter. Feeding hay to beef is no fun in either one. My husband always thought that putting the duels on the tractor would keep him from getting stuck, and I told him that is just 4 wheels to get stuck, not two. -11 this morning, and lots of snow on the ground, so we are not close to mud season.....yet.

We've got to combat dog mud here, too - plus kid mud.
My next project is cleaning out our little work shed before it starts crawling with spiders and wasps. It's such a mess of winter clutter in there, and I'm hoping to tidy it up enough that I can use it as a saw shop this summer. Plus, we need to expand our orchard fence in preparation for new trees on the way.
Forecast for the next 3 days: FREEZING RAIN.
So, stoking the fire, writing, & watching movies may be on the agenda instead!

Your Honey Hunk is right! Mud comes right between winter and spring. There might even be a 6th season between summer and fall- Dust.

we mostly only have MUD when we have BIG RAINS .. don't know that my past-times are much different during this season than any other. honey hunk always says that some of the northern states had FIVE seasons:
spring .. summer .. autumn .. winter .. and mud!

HEH! Trying to clean muddy dog paws and keep the encroaching mud out of the house! starting spring cleaning as soon as the days are good enough and sitting in the sun and reading/writing...I drink up the sunlight like the thirsty earth at this time of year and welcome its gentle touch...make more wild garden plans =P and enjoy the spring storms....We get sooper-dooper rainbows here
