Some of you may remember Angel, the cockatoo who lives at my husband's animal shelter. Last summer, she hosted two giveaways for cookbooks. She picked the names from a box. Last weekend, my dh and I found a beautiful, brand new Kaytee birdcage in a flea market in Shelbyville. She's been living in a ratty, put together thing that came with her. Here it is:She has to stand in the metal tray where her food goes and also in whatever mess is in the bottom - no grid or tray down there, either. My husband's budget has no allowance for anything for an animal like a cockatoo - I cook for her and we buy all her food and toys. Here's Angel and me. So we just came across this cage:, which retails for not much under $500.00, at a close out price of $300.00. Well, so much for saving our money for the heating at the farm.....But as you can see, she likes it already!
And she's SO HAPPY, that she wants to host another giveaway! I found this farmgirly apple peeler, corer(1989) unused in the original box, at a thrift store yesterday. And since Angel loves apples, she thought this would be a good thing. So if you're interested, leave your name in this thread by midnight, Saturday, Feb.23rd. and Angel will draw on Sunday! I'll post her pic when she does it!

I love those birds! Used to help in an aviary when I was 19 and had SO much fun raising my own bird from egg to adult. Congrats on the home!

I bet it is neat to watch her do different things. I'm sure you must have fun times with her. I used to be a bird owner but I lost both of mine. One was young when we had a winter storm that took the power out. I did not know much about them and we had no way to keep them warm. We moved them to the laundry room where our heater was to try to keep them warm from the pilot. The heater had electric ignition so we still didn't have heat but the pilot stayed lit. Anyway, I think she was to young for her body to retain any heat. Two weeks later the other died I think from loneliness. Couldn't bring myself to get anymore. They were both parakeets. But I love to see them and if you have a blog it would be nice to see more pictures of Angel.

Yes, Denise and Tina. Angel does love apples. She likes the sweet ones best - Cameo, Gala and Fuji especially. :) But she likes the peel left on - LOL, so she thinks giving away a peeler is a great idea! She kind of holds the slices and grips onto the edge with the peel on it and eats it.

And we think she's about 5 or 6 years old. Still a baby in cockatoo years. They can live to be 50 or over.

Janice,
Angel is beautiful. I love her coloring. So does she like apples? I guess she wouldn't mind eating the peelings now would she? How old is she do you know?
Please add my name to the drawing.
thanks,
Denise

Janice - what a beautiful bird! Love that photo of you two. I'm cracking up over the mac and cheese. Anyone that doesn't like that stuff doesn't know what they are missing! I LOVE mac&cheese. :)

Throw my name in the pot. I have an apple kitchen and we're always eating apples too. You should post up more photos of Angel. :)

Angel is a perfect name for her! I had to laugh about her eating boiled eggs ... something is just not right there! But I like them too so I don't blame her one bit. She is so lucky to have you.

Please add me to the apple peeler drawing, too! Thanks so much.

Blessings, Lea

Throw my name in Janice. So good of you to do all the things you do for Angel. And as Nancy Jo says, who needs heat--summer's coming. Besides snuggling generates lots of heat. hehe. MB

Nancy Jo - Angel isn't hard to cook for-LOL. She likes beans-I either buy lots of packages of beans, peas, etc. and mix them up, or buy a package of 'nine-bean', fifteen bean, etc. soup mix and throw away the flavoring packet. She also likes 'Kashi pilaf'. It's made by the Kashi people who make cereal. There are three packets in a box and you cook it like rice(takes 20 minutes). She especially likes hard boiled eggs(which seems kind of weird to me - a bird who eats hard boiled eggs...). Her all time favorite thing is Macaroni and cheese, though. Her beady little eyes light up when mac and cheese is on the menu!

Janice,
How nice for Angel!! She must be so happy.Who needs heat at the farm anyway. I mean summer is coming. Maybe she can move out to the farm with you when you do get heat. See you are a really nice person, lots of people out there don't even cook for their family and you cook for a bird. I wouldn't know how to do that.
Anyway, also nice to see a picture of cute you, I showed Jack and Dave because they often ask about you.
So here is my name for the drawing. NANCY JO
