HEY GURLFRENZ ... sherri and i have been trading e-mails about doing 'good thangs' for ourselves EACH day .. i thought it would be fun to include all of ya'll! sooooo .. let's keep this topic going here with a little report every day or so .. letting each other know what 'good' we have done for our health, attitude, spirit .. or any other part of us that we want to 'nourish'.

these can be 'BIG' things or 'little' things .. they all add up!

today .. i SHOPPED! ha! that including lots of WALKING. everytime i wanted to go to a store .. i would park as far away as i could and WALK to it! i kept doing this over and over .. AND .. i fed my soul by visiting Hodgenville and going to the Lincoln Museum and seeing olde friends in town that i hadn't seen in a long time.

I got honey-hunk and me both BIG water bottles .. so i can start drinking my '8-a-day' .. i 'think' i had my FIVE ALIVE fruits and veggies today .. had a banana, apple and a BIG salad!

these are a few of the 'good thangs' i did for ME today .. how about you?

I always try to have an attitude of gratitude. With arthritis and fibromyalgia as my constant companions (for about 40 years now), I have learned to cope rather well. When ever I get out of bed, whether it be in the middle of the night to tinkle or in the morning, I always say a "thank you" when my feet hit the rug because I am so grateful that my feet are working! I have been fighting the flu for about a week now and today decided not to get dressed and just sit on my couch and knit and drink hot tea. I am feeling better! Today my goal was to finish the baby blanket I crocheted for the girl across the street and I just got it done!

I love to watch Joel Osteen on tv. The other night he said that we should all try to be an "on purpose person." Smile on purpose. Help someone on purpose. Love someone you don't on purpose. And before you know it.....you'll have a life of "purposes!" Isn't that great? Susan

Well, I had a pretty good day today - if I only count taking care of me I didn't get much work done but I DID go for a long walk, drug my bike out and rode it around the block to see if it still worked, had a big salad for lunch (it was yummy - had blueberries, grilled, chicken, feta, onions, and raspberry vinegrette on it), had two pieces of fruit, and drank quite a bit of water. Also sat and had coffee and wrote down some goals in a notebook. When I was a home visitor, I used to help clients set goals, determine obstacles, and set game plans. I just realized I need to do that for myself. Part of that was to get some new clothes - while I'm waiting to find out of DH is getting laid off! so, I decided to make a few things. Bought a cheap pattern and some $1 a yard fabric at Wally's and started that. Soooooooo didn't get much work done, but it was nice to have a self-indulgent day today. Tomorrow is Valentine's day and I"ll try to make it as special as I can for dh.

tomorrow .. valentine's day .. love day .. let's all try to do something special for a 'stranger'.

today .. when i went to that little 'chicken' place in town for my POT PIE .. the lady behind the counter was so friendly and cheerful and welcoming .. she jus' made me smile. AND .. even though she was in a conversation with someone else .. when i left .. she hollered after me .. You have a great evening! just a smile or a few kind words can brighten up a day!

let's all brighten someone's day tomorrow with a smile and kind word .. and tell of it! xo

Well, another great thread! I like reading about all the things everyone is doing to take care of themselves. I'm so proud of everyone! You are all so smart!

I have made so many changes in the last year... I think I was starting to feeling old and this "old gal" can sometimes be a bit vain... I think I may have entered the "M" zone and finally just admitted it. LOL

So...I started eating better, following The Southbeach Diet, as my family has a history of diabetes. I cut way down on sugar and use stevia instead. I switched to decaff. I also started taking some dietary suppliments. I'm really intrigued by "Dr Oz". Read some stuff online and it sounds reasonable. I also started getting more rest and drinking more water. I DO need to get more exercise...but I hate it so much. I have always been the artist, not the athlete. Time for another change!

Hey Frannie, this is a good topic. Good For you Pinkroses.

Did yoga, which I usually do but dislike.

Ate pretty well. Had a cookie. I refuse to feel guilty about that

I finished my magazine. Usually, I end up frustrated at times, but it was fine. Maybe it's the Valentine's theme...hmmm....

Finished cleaning the house. I'd wanted to REALLY clean it but I finally did so just now....

How about everyone else?

I did my exercise because I am Diabect type 2 and
I did them before I became that anyways.
I got out of bed, (Which is good); some times it is a struggle
what with all that is wrong with me.
Oh, I got the "Victorian Sping Catlog " in the mail and the new Colitde which is a sewing, quilting catalog.
So, I plan on looking at those after dinner dishes is done.
Oh, and wrote a mushy poem for my Hubby,
Hadn't wrote a poem for him in a long while.
Also, I enjoyed the electricy getting back on after being off for several hours.
Thank goodness it came back on

Linda...sorry to hear about the funky news from your doc....esp when the word cancerous is in the words (even pre-cancer)...I had a similar scare with my thyroid. I hope all gets better with that. Definatly take care of yourself 1st. Of course, sometimes it takes a health 'scare' get us goin' to really turn things around for the better.

Glad that you treated yourself with 'pretties'.

Good luck in your interview, you will do great

I agree this is a wonderful thread!

So I got some funky news from the doc the other day about pre cancerous cells found on my cervix. After my meltdown I got very quiet and introspective.

The time has come for me to own my health and fitness and not just dabble my toe in it like I have been doing for years! Ugh.

So this morning I doubled my walking time and challenged myself on a few big hills too! Felt good.

I packed for my trip to see Dan in Chicago today and bought myself a few pretties at a lingerie store last night as well as a gorgeous new suit for my job interview tomorrow.

And last but not least I was/am being mindful and loving about everything I put in my mouth. Phew that's a big one for me!

A brilliant start I think!

I really hope so, from what I saw it is supposed to be in the 40's down your way on Saturday, partly cloudy and on Sunday, it is supposed to be in the lower 50's w/ rain....a morning walk in the rain sounds good...doin that puddle jumpin' that you were talking about! Of course, it will be colder up in Ohio oh well spring IS getting closer and closer.

The cashew butter is one of our 'local' brands, it is called Krema (pronounced Creama)...it IS really good stuff...yes, two spoons needed here for sure

Thanks miz Frannie sweetie...that sounds great. I don't eat the PB part, but I will be bringing with me some cashew butter that I have at home and can have that w/ the jelly....peanuts don't like me very well.

Yes, only 2 more days....and the sun is shinin' here but it is soooo cold. I want it to all blow away too...Friday hubby and I will be watchin the weather radar right before we leave Friday morning...chance of some snow showers....sounds like it won't be much (unlike the past couple of days). The weather does not look too bad for our Saturday running around, which is good.

This is great. Now, we can remind each other to be kind to ourselves -we deserve it!

I spend a lot of my work day on the 'puter. So, I decided that every time I finish a project or am at a place where I can take a break I will walk outside so I can stretch, clear my head and enjoy the sun. It's been warm here lately and I'm itch'ng to be outside. Getting outside a few times a day makes me less cranky too.

I went to Joann's last night to buy fabric for my very first quilt.

I was bad at lunch, but dinner was all Asian - potstickers, edamame, asian slaw and oranges - so I think that makes up for it.

This weekend DD has a sheep show up the coast, so I'm taking off after the Saturday show to go to all my favorite garden shops in Cambria, about 30 minutes away from the show grounds. I can't wait I haven't been up there in ages.

Wonderful Frannie!!! Proud of you. I always try to be healthy. I barely drink pop, yesterday I had half of a can :-p because of garlicy and salty bread sticks from the olive garden. I eat lots of veggies (wish I ate more organic ones) and fruit sorta. I walk but should walk more. You are an inspiration frannie!

I walked up and down the beach for an hour in the bright beautiful sun and then had some lemon and water. I took the dog out late last night and enjoyed a starry walk.

Ate some blueberries.

When I get to work at my office job at 8...I try to each day to have a cup of herbal tea -usually peppermint to wake me up (esp on a cold wintry day like today). I do walk from where the transit bus drops me off and then walk about 3 blocks to work (even in the ice and snow). I am also taking my digestive supplements and trying to get all of the good fruits and veggies in and getting more water in too...may I say the MJ Bakeovers and similar recipies are helping me to achieve this...I am experiemneting more w/ herbs and spices too, which are a good to enhance the flavor of the veggies.

On a more "soul health" note, I am also treating myself to a wonderful girls weekend at miz Frannie's this weekend....and I am soooo looking forward to it. At first, I was not going to because of the idea of having to spend money for traveling there and buying some of the meals and such, esp w/ hubby without a job right now and me working part-time. I decided tho that "hey, I need this time for myself, to get away from the mundane and crazy"......I will have to watch my p's and q's thos when I go shopping in those great antique stores I am thankful that I have the opprtunity to have a good time w/ my farmgirl friends and to go somewhere that I have not visited before!

Good idea, this "good for me" thread! Missed our daily walk this morning, but did rake up a big pile of leaves and little branches to surprise hubby (he was planning to do it later today), and took care of hubby's son's new doggie while they did some errands, had yogurt and banana for lunch, so I won't feel guilty about eating the homemade chocolate pudding hubby is fixing..... and as always, started my day with the Bible! Looking forward to hearing some more good for me ideas!! Hugs, Nance

I'm not walking like I should, either too cold, or too rainy....ok, really too lazy lately. :( I usually try to get my fruits and veggies in daily, and I found a nice organic market by me. Today, I made a smoothie for breakfast. I blended plain yogurt, a fresh banana, frozen blueberries and frozen strawberries, added honey and a dash of vanilla extract. It's a very rainy morning here and got an early start to work. I had on a good radio station and the traffic wasn't too bad. A nice start for today....

I walked as well, in the rain, (I keep hoping I'll shrink, but no luck so far), and ate my fruit and veggies. I've also got a goal about spiffing up the everyday look, but I didn't hit that one today. Stayed in my sweats at my sewing machine all day. I'll do better tomorrow.
