Andrew probably blew the head gasket on out older Suberu this morning on the way to work and had to have the car towed. Do car problems ever come at a good time? We really can't afford to get it fixed right now and will have to think of something to do while we tighten our belts. Maybe go look at ultra cheap cars or something. I just wanted to sigh about it

The really frustrating thing about head gaskets is that they are such a little nonentity of a part in themselves. But you have to take the whole engine apart to get to them.

I don't know about Subarus, but I've had several friends who have gotten the head gasket fixed on minivans and the van never seems to last more than a year or two beyond that. It's not that the head gasket is connected to other things, it's just that the car is reaching the end of its lifespan at the point when the head gasket goes. On the other hand, I've had 30 year old Chryslers that had to be retired finally due to rust and the head gasket had never been replaced.

If you trust your mechanic, he/she might be able to tell you whether your car is still worth fixing up.

Amen Sister, no time is a good time for car troubles. I have prayed for the last 4 yrs... Lord, please let this old car last until Sissy gets through school. Well she finished Jan. 22 and it has done been in the shop...guess, I should have really thought about what I was praying for. ha.

No, they don't ever happen at a good time, do they? We went through this back in the autumn, almost 2 weeks apart. Sooooo frustrating before the holiday and just in general. Hoping for the best for the Suburu. Good gas mileage!!!

Annika, we should sit down for a virtual cry together. My husband's 1989 volvo suddenly needs the whole rack replaced, including new ball joints, tie rod ends, and top it off with an alignment at the end. Cars are so frustrating. One day, everything's fine. The next, they might as well be lawn sculpture.

good luck, annika. car trouble always finds us when we can least afford it...blah!

What we write today slipped into our souls some other day when we were alone and doing nothing.

Oh No, Annika! That's no good. Try www.palouseads.com or call Potlatch Auto Salvage. Sometimes they have cars that work. Sometimes WSU has car auctions and the sheriff does car auctions as well sometimes. I hope you get it figured out soon! *hugs*
