I love listening to Alan Jackson's new song "Small Town Southern Man." The video is set back during different eras too. Below are the lyrics...reminds me of several small town farmers that I know.

Born the middle son of a farmer
And a small town Southern man
Like his daddy's daddy before him
Brought up workin' on the land
Fell in love with a small town woman
And they married up and settled down
Natural way of life if you're lucky
For a small town Southern man

First there came four pretty daughters
For this small town Southern man
Then a few years later came another
A boy, he wasn't planned
Seven people livin' all together
In a house built with his own hands
Little words with love and understandin'
From a small town Southern man

Chorus:
And he bowed his head to Jesus
And he stood for Uncle Sam
And he only loved one woman
(He) was always proud of what he had
He said his greatest contribution
Is the ones you leave behind
Raised on the ways and gentle kindness
Of a small town Southern man
(Raised on the ways and gentle kindness)
(Of a small town Southern man)

Callous hands told the story
For this small town Southern man
He gave it all to keep it all together
And keep his family on his land
Like his daddy, years wore out his body
Made it hard just to walk and stand
You can break the back
But you can't break the spirit
Of a small town Southern man

(Repeat Chorus)

Finally death came callin'
For this small town Southern man
He said it's alright 'cause I see angels
And they got me by the hand
Don't you cry, and don't you worry
I'm blessed, and I know I am
'Cause God has a place in Heaven
For a small town Southern man

(Repeat Chorus)

If you all get GAC, the video is on their countdown too. They play it a lot on there. The radio doesn't play a lot of good traditional country music songs. I usually tune it into WSM Online. There are very few of the new artists that I like over the years and what is funny is that the ones that I know from the beginning they will stay...well they are still hanging strong in the business. I've come to know a couple of them that are award winners and Grand Ole Opry Members and remember back when they were first beginning.

If I find any more songs with the lyrics so meaningful and talks about the simple life, I'll let ya'll know. :)

Girls howw lucky we are, In the almost 46 years we have had I have never once not known I could trust my husband, My biggest worry now is that we might not have this long together beyond now but I will love him with all my being until we part, I have a small town southern man and wouldnt trade him for the wealthiest man in the world

I love Alan Jackson too. I haven't heard this one but love the words. I'll be listerning for it on the radio. Gotta agree with Jeannie - those small town, corn fed, mid-western men are the best! But of course we'd both agree on that because we're small town, corn fed, mid-western gals from IL!

I love, love, love Alan Jackson. And you know in real life, there is nothing like a small town southern man, unless it is a small town, corn-fed, mid-western man, which I have, and there is nothing better than one of those either!

A good man, who stands for the right things, and does not bend in the wind. I love that. And I was blessed to get one.

I haven't heard that song yet, but I love the lyrics. Of course, anything Alan Jackson sings would sound heavenly!

Oh wow. This could be my father in law. Of course, I started crying when I got to the end. His cousin (who was like a brother to him) died last week and of course it started me thinking.

My husband joked today (after he complained about his daddy getting on his nerves), "That man thinks the sun shines out of your butt". Well, I think the same about him! :D
