I'm trying to decide whether I should add this quilt to the line of things I sell. It's gotten a good response here, so I'm taking an informal poll to see whether I should make some of these to add to my line. My crib quilts sell for $60 and this is quite a bit larger so I'd sell it for $80. What do you think - would it be worthwhile to make some of these up or no? Thanks for your opinions ladies!!

This quilt is one I made for us - it is 51" x 60" - what I call "snuggle size". It is not big enough for a bed, but just right for snuggling on the couch. This is about the biggest size I can machine quilt on my machine. It too is backed with fleece, so it's really warm and snuggly.

Of course, this is my style - primitive country, and you could make one in any style, according to the fabric. Just let me know when you're ready. I'll be here, permanently attached to my sewing machine!!

Italy - wow! Can't believe you'd give up Puyallup for Italy!! No - I know better than to bring something without running it by Betty first! I was thinking more of the "free for all" fairs that I do - mostly in Montana. They are great for "unthemed" merchandise (ie. the leftover stuff from the line, discontinued, one of a kind) I do really well over there and most of them aren't juried so you don't have to stick to a limited line. It's a good way to try some new things out without having to build a whole line around them. Of course, what works in Montana won't necessarily work in WA!

They did have a gal who made quilts for the fall fair, butI dont think she was there last year. Be sure and check with Betty before makinga bunch, you never know what her mood will be if you just bring them in.
I usually do the sheperds extravaganza in the spring fair, but this year I will be in Italy. But thats all fiber stuff. I did the Artists in Action one year, but people arent looking for wool stuff in the spring LOL

Pricing is such a hard part of a home business like mine. My dh, who was in retail for 30 years, helped me come up with my formula. I charge 3x the cost of materials. 1/3 for the materials, 1/3 for the cost of selling the product (show fees, % my web store charges, office supplies, gas, etc.) and 1/3 for my labor - the actual amount I get for a product. In some cases I end up making about .10 an hour and in others I do alright. When you're at the stage that I am in the business development, you can't really expect to get paid much for your time. But the upside is, I'm doing what I love, I'm making a LITTLE money, and I get to stay home most of the time. So far this formula has worked for me, who knows,, maybe when I get a little more well known, I can up the prices some and be a little more fair to myself. This is just a stage of building a business I guess.

Hi Sherri,
Your quilt is lovely!I think you'd do well with it. $80 is a great price. Just as a frame of reference, I sell new quilts that size in my antique booth for $98.

Bridget has ordered one of these quilts with the predominent color being red. Maybe when she gets it she will post a picture and we can see how it looks in different fabric. I want to take an informal poll here - do you ladies think I should add this quilt to my line that I sell? I haven't had anything but crib quilts before, but maybe I could sell some of these too. What do you think? They would be $80.

Shirley - yes I'm going to do the fair again - and I'm going to do the Spring Fair in April. No - I didn't have any of these quilts at the fair because all I had were my children's items there. Maybe I should make some of these and call them what? - Young Adult Throws? I have had a lot of compliments here so I might be able to sell some.

Sherri,
I love your quilt!!!!
Did you have any at Puyallup fair last fall?
Are you going to do the fair again?

Bridget - I bought the fabrics for your quilt today - I really like what I found. I bought 11 new fabrics, in country colors, predominently dark red, so I'll be starting it soon!

Sherri, I love your quilt!! What a beautiful job you do. You know, I'm thinking I do like primitive! That is just the kind of pattern I would do. Machine quitling is sure easier than hand quilting isn't it? I learned the from scratch quilting all hand done. It takes so much time. If I do another one iy will be machine for sure!

Beautiful Sherri. It looks like one that another farmgirl had on their blog. Can you tell me the name of the pattern and where to get directions? I'm a newbie at quilting, but a friend is going to help me. Gpa is giving me a bunch of old worn flannel shirts for the fabric. Firgured while I was learning I wouldn't wast money on fabric, and if it turns out we may just give it to Gpa.
