Radio shows, ed sullivan type shows, families all living together aunts uncles gps, togetherness? I know I'm younger than when all that really took place but I tend to envy that. I watch Radio Days and envy them.

I love NPR on Saturday's here with the "Car Talk" and "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me." It definitely cracks me up with some of the stories on there.

Another "vote" for A Prairie Home Companion here! Garrison Keillor deliberately based his radio show on the "old-time" shows he grew up listening to with his family. So much fun to listen to on a Saturday evening!

Check on some of your am station program listings... we have an am station which broadcasts old radio shows every sunday evening. Also, if you are a Christian, there are a lot of Christian radio shows which might be broadcast on any of your local Christian radio stations... we have a Christian radio station which broadcasts radio shows on Saturday mornings and Wed. evenings... I'd do a search on the web to find out program listings of the stations in your area which might be likely to feature those types of shows... and that way (if you luck into a station which offers that type of programming in it's schedule), it's free, aside from a little research time. A great show to listen to (with funny stories, and good music)which should be on every week on your local NPR station is Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion.... If all else fails, they do sell old time radio shows in recorded formats such as cds and tapes, and if you do a search on ebay for "old radio shows", you should find a few items. Hope this info helps!

After you buy the satellite receiver, which is about $100, the service is about $10 a month per receiver. Hubby got one for his car, and I got one for my car and the house. We wired it into our big Bose stereo in the livingroom, and it sounds like there are people in there! If you want to see a selection of the type of broadcasting they do, I know you can check them out online. Just google XM Radio. The Oprah channel's really fun, too!

You know, I was just thinking about this the other day. My mom used to pile all us kids in the car and we'd go for a drive every Saturday night just to listen to some radio drama. We didn't have a radio in the house. It was so much fun. It's almost like being read to with sound effects (heels on a wood floor, knocking on a door, etc.) Boy I miss those!

We have XM Radio. There's a channel that's dedicated to nothing but old time radio dramas. The Shadow, The Lone Ranger, The Jack Benny Show, etc. They also have music by the decades, so as I'm cooking dinner I often listen to music from the thirties and forties, or some old time country on a channel called Willie's Place. Lots of talk radio, the BBC, New Age, classical, jazz, you name it. I love XM Radio!

Bohemiangel - Radio Days is my most favorite movie of ALLLLL TIME! I am always very envious of them as well!

I listen to Prairie Home Companion because of that old radio show feel...I love it!

I am divorced, but we try to live an old-fashioned a lifestyle as possible. We watch a lot of Waltons DVDs and my girls really only like "classic" cartoons. We also love the fact that we live in our hometown and we have nearly all of our family close by - that's something we never take for granted.

I've been nostalgic lately too, Bridget. We've been watching Pioneers of Television on PBS and I'm wishing I'd been around when all those shows were on!

In Lexington, they have the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour on Monday nights around 7PM EST. You can listen to it online at www.woodsongs.com or watch it older episodes. We've been a few times and it is great to listen to.

Don't forget, you can listen to the Grand Ole Opry on www.wsmonline.com. I usually only listen to WSM out of Nashville while I'm on the computer.
