I was talking with a friend and we were discussing brand name products. I am not usually brand loyal as I am cheap and buy whatever is on sale but there are a few things that I have to have.
1. Scott toilet paper (every other brand seems to go so fast!)
2. Tidy Cats litter
I think it would be interesting to hear what you just "must have"!

Ohh, I'm so with you on the Viva paper towels! I read in Consumer Reports that they're the most absorbent and the best value.

My husband won't let me buy anything except Viva towels. They are sooo soft.

Having spent most of my adult life BROKE, I use generic in just about everything. The only brand names I'm really picky about are Viva paper towels (why not use one instead of 3?), kikkoman's soy sauce, and liquid light herbal tinctures...oh, yea, Soshana Gardens Eden Salve too. For clothing, I prefer the fit of Levi's Signature Jeans and will almost always choose Sketchers if they are available (they are the only shoes I've found that will out last my oldest son).

Shoes? I'm almost ALWAYS in Ariats.

Makeup and hair stuff comes from my favorite salon, Mario Tricoci. Oh my, they treat me GOOD. *wink*

Flours are always King Arthur Flour. I mailorder it.

Lemme see, gotta have Lindt chocolate, or Ghirardelli. Dean's cottage cheese (although NOTHING tastes as good as the stuff I made from my own cow! *sob*) Meats have to come from Inboden's, a butcher shop I'm willing to drive an hour to visit. I won't buy meat if it doesn't come from their store. It's all prime and top choice; yummeh! Land O Lakes Unsalted butter. I'm a label reader and pass by anything that has high fructose corn syrup. When I buy maple syrup, I'm not so fussy about the brand but it has to be the real thing. Horizon milk and half and half, as well as Oberweis if I can find it. Barilla Plus pasta.

Oh, and strawberry Twizzlers for the horses. I have a couple that would do backflips for Twizzlers!

OH! OH! OH!!!! I totally forgot!!! I was a major Dansko only shoes girl !! But I have been enlightened to a new shoe!! El Naturalista!!! Oh my!!! pricey! but worth every penney! More comfy than danskos AND the soles are recycled AND I think they are cuter!!! My new shoe obsession!!!

I've found this thread really interesting and a little surprising. I can certainly understand buying brand names in clothing and footwear when they are proven to work for you and are good quality. The same for hygiene products when you have sensitive skin and/or allergies and have to use something that is okay.
But food products? I personally boycott anything made by Kraft (the GMO thing) and shy away from factory, mass produced anything. Maybe I am over-the-top untrusting.

I forgot... Target brand anything!! I detest the mall so if I can't get it at Target or any local store then I don't need it.

Dove soap for sensitive skin
Scott's tp because the others DO go too fast
Palmolive dish soap because the others' suds give out too fast
Jeans from LL Bean because they actually fit my long waist and short legs.
Tillamook cheeses

There isn't really that much. I could, and have, made do with other brands, but my skin itches or blisters with other soaps. I end up spending more money because I use more tp and more dish soap. And other brands of jeans ride up and are really uncomfortable because they're not made for long-waisted women. The cheeses are more because dh prefers that brand. I don't notice much difference, but he does.

I'm not a "store brand" person per se--haven't been to a mall in I can't remember when, and I'm only 34

Shoes, I buy dansko for casual and nine west for "work" shoes because they sell size 5.

At the grocery, I tend to stick to the natural foods section, and I don't even know what brands I'm partial to..whatever sounds good, whatever is on sale or reasonable.

Oh. I just thought of one thing we don't mess around with: peanut butter. Only Jif extra crunchy will do.

There are very few things I am a stickler about with brands, other than Tillamook cheese for my chedder cheese and levi jeans, only because there is one particular cut that seems to fit my short legged little figure the best. I also just switched to the aluminum free baking powder, since I am on my "anti-aluminum" kick, so it is a brand called Rumford. I also love Tropicana Calcium orange juice, though the best is fresh squeezed!

Doc Martens for shoes. Life is too short for sore feet.
Nature's Gate toothpaste-in the blue box, peppermint flavored.
Kiss-my-Face soap.
Annie's white cheddar easy mac- yummy!!!!
Duncan Hines for cake mixes (I know I am a heathen, I don't make my cakes from scratch...)
I forgot... Cover Girl "Professional" mascara. Any other brand (from cheap to expensive)makes my eyes water and get all goopy.
Kemp's Select Milk-My kids won't drink organic milk, so this is the compromise between organic and "regular" milk.

It seems I use a lot of generic stuff but Scott Toliet Paper is something I don't change. It lasts longer and is easier on our septic system. Also Cover Girl foundation too. Other kinds usually break me out.

Cafe du Monde coffee with chicory; hubby and I even dragged six cans back to France last May to "see me through" the summer. Heck; after all that lugging and huffing and puffing I am drinking cheap Italian coffee here now, ha! Love Noxema also, but try to buy L'Oreal stuff also since hubby retired from them. Hugs, Nance

Colgate Toothpaste, Prego sauce (although this past year I canned my own tomatoes and they taste great), Suave shampoos and conditioners and Scoop Away cat litter. As to clothing, any jeans that fit (easier said than done) and are cheap so I don't care if I ruin them working in my yard.
createmyworld Posted - Jan 22 2008 : 07:08:51 AM
There are 2 things I'm specific with clothing-wise: Jeans must be Calvin Klein easy fit, and shoes must be either Earth or Dansko or Privo by Clarks; and Brooks for running shoes. anything else clothing-wise, as long as it fits, is comfortable and attractive works for me! Shampoo brand I'm faithful to is Nature's Gate Organics. Soaps - my new favorites are made by Bubbles by Bonne (our own Bonne from MJF Connection). Foods - any organic brands are what I look for, especially Amy's and Annie's foods. Dairy products and veggies I prefer to buy local and organic.
GaiasRose Posted - Jan 22 2008 : 06:43:49 AM
the only think I buy brand is my butter, cow milk, soy milk and a few other dairy products. I'm really not too picky otherwise. I do bujy my veggies organic where I can and when I need something fresh, however.
