Posted - Jan 22 2008 : 06:29:30 AM I don't know any dude Ranches in Texas but it sure would be fun. Let us know if you find one. I worked on a dude ranch when I was 19. I cooked for the cowboys and my husband did handyman work. We had a blast and it is an experience I have never forgotten. Also I got to ride all I wanted when I wasn't working. MB

Posted - Jan 22 2008 : 06:18:46 AM Frannie- I didn't stay at The Hideout, but actually went up to go visit a friend that works there. The main lodge is beautiful, they have a professional chef to cook all of the meals, the owner takes the guests for helicopter rides to see the surrounding area (Not sure if that is extra or not). It really is amazing. If you think about it, most sortof nice hotels are getting close to $200 a night, and you still have to buy your own food. So if you think a nice hotel would be about $800 for four nights plus say $50 in food per person each day (most likely more) that brings your total to $1200. Then you have the extras like the horse back riding and stuff like that... I know it seems expensive at first, but I bet most guest ranches will be about that expensive.
And Sherri- Yes, Jackson Hole really caters to the "jet set" so everything there costs a fortune!

Posted - Jan 21 2008 : 10:07:45 PM Frannie - your post made me think about a guest ranch that I visited this summer, so I looked it up. My son works for a painter in Jackson Hole WY and he took us out to see the place they were working on while we visited last summer. We looked around and it looked like fun, it was beautiful, and I thought - yeah, I think I'd like to stay in a place like this some time. I just looked it up on-line and about fell over. The cabins that he took us in to show us where they were painting were $14,995 a WEEK!!! Holy cow - I don't want to buy it, just sleep in it for a week!!! Of course that doesn't include gratuity - I couldn't even afford the gratuity only!! Hope you find a place in Texas - sounds like it'd be great fun!
