It looks like we might get some rebate checks coming in our mailbox! If we do I know exactly what I am going to do with mine- Stock up on yummy crisis food from my favorite place! We have used up a few of our food stores, (we always do in December), so this will be perfect timing to re-stock up!

Yes, we are going to pay bills with any tax break/credit/refund whatever. I know that by fixing our financial situation now with any helping hand, it will help our future.

I don't really "buy" into the idea that we should just go at and spend spend spend. But it sure makes it hard when you are struggling to pay the bills for necessities...like heat and water and the debt collectors call because you haven't made a payment in a couple of months on your car repair bill or whatever.

So while it scares me the our economy needs a "boost" from the government, I can't help but look forward to any helping hand my little family gets.

Luckily we are getting to a point where we should be able to start saving money again.

Also we pretty much have everything we need so even if we did get a huge check in the mail, I can't really think of anything we would rush out to buy! Isn't that a great feeling? About the only thing I want to go splurge on is re-stocking the pantry! LOL

I'm with you, Judy--think about this: in both terms of his presidency, he's had to "boost" our economy--remember afte 911? I realize things were mighty different, but we got checks in the mail that we were supposed to go out and "spend to boost the economy--buy a big screen tv"...I paid bills with my little check, because frankly, we were barely making it then! Then, you had to turn around and claim it on your taxes. Thanks so much!!!

This year, I'd do the same--put it in savings or spend it on bills. The money situation isn't going to get any better just because they send us out some dough, so I'd put mine away for sure.

I'm going to put my money in savings, also my tax refund, if I get one this year. The union I belong to in the company I work for has a contract that is up in August. Hopefully, we won't go out, but just in case, I'm going to need a reserve. If we don't go out, then I'll have fun!

Most countries in the world operate off the gold standard now. I am not going to voice an opinion as to whether it is good or bad, but if the government can help pull us out of this recession- I will be so very happy. I know a lot of business owners are suffering as people clamp down on their spending. It makes me nervous because within the next 5 years Doug and I will be starting our own business so we are watching the economy extra sharp lately.

Bridge, I am with you. I think it is stupid and ill advised and yep, paper with no gold backing it. That's why all of our money says federal reserve note. we're borrowing money that no one really has...very disturbing.

Does this scare anyone else??
It does me. At first they say the economy is just slow, not to worry.
Now they want to give us money to spend to boost the economy.

Plus with the way things are for most folks, they will just pay that money on the debt they already have. Which won't help our economy now. Then there will be the folks that just stash the cash thinking that things could take a turn for the worse. Yes there will be some that will spend it as soon as they can but more than likely they don't put lots of thought into their purchases, so they will by all the made in China stuff and not local or USA made.

Maybe I am just paranoid, but I don't think this is a good thing.

If it does come, mine will go into the "piggy". Do any of you invest in gold or silver. I have been reading up on this.

It has been said the fed is printing money with no dollars behind it. This is one reason the value of the dollar has declined so rapidly.
In wartime, many nations actually operated counterfeiting programs to undermine our dollar, but never to a disastrous level. The enemy knew how harmful excessive creation of new money could be to the dollar and our economy. But it seems we never learned the dangers of creating new money out of thin air.Are we our own enemy?

the way it reads on the White House website is that it will reflect in filing your income taxes this year. Your tax bracket probably changed as changed them to "more simple" numbers, did away with the marriage penalty for two income households and increases the child credit to $1000.

I didn't read anything regarding rebate checks getting sent out, though.

I saw that on the news last night....we sure could use it here. Businesses are hardly hiring around here and those that are, don't want to pay a lot. A lot of the housing slump here is the fact that they overdeveloped and everywhere you turned there was a new subdivision put up. Man o War Road in Lexington and the Hamburg (or Humburg as we call it) is proof of that...too many houses when there are not that many people. I know that from the day we bought our home, we have gotten bombarded with those "offers" to move our loan somewhere else. Hopefully the rebates will come very soon!!!
