I think my sleep pattern has gotten all messed up lately. I am usually wide awake until about 3AM and then I'm falling asleep for a little whiles. What do you gals do to help you get sleepy? You can only watch so many Conway Twitty & other good country singers on You Tube for so long!!

Yeah - I've tried counting sheep a few times, but it didn't help. Another prob of me falling asleep is hubby's snoring...that's another whole adventure. Maybe I could count his snores? haha.

Did you ever try literally counting sheep? I always fall asleep with that. Darn numbers put me out. That or really really boring things to read. I tend to watch a comedy or something that uplifts me and then I am wide awake haha.

I do make some folks giggle when they see that their emails were replied with a time of 2AM or so. With the house being quiet since the hubby is sleeping, night time has been when I catch up with emails.

I'm going to go to the library today and get a few books. Usually they help me sleep. I'll also try the journal thingie that you guys suggested.

I know of only one product in my lifetime that has EVER helped me with the whirl (monkey-brain) activity that goes on in my brain when I lie down to rest/sleep and it's the Stress Relief Complex. It actually changes the alpha waves...it calms & I don't understand how exactly, but during the day if I'm stressed, I'll use one & about 15-20 minutes later, I'll feel myself take a deep sigh, almost like when a child has been crying and then the body involuntarily gives that big sigh feeling...it's really a big "cleansing breath" feeling and I'll realize the thoughts I was stressing about aren't stressing me...it's amazing. It's not like feeling sleepy or drowsey, just really calm. Then, & again I don't understand how, but @ night when my brain goes into overdrive, I'll take one and the monkey brain stops...just stops, I'm calm & I drift off to sleep. It doesn't make me feel sleepy, it just relaxes me somehow & my brain isn't worried or trying like mad to figure stuff out. Here is the link again for product info, which says it promotes alertness, but I don't feel alert after taking it before bed...just really calm, tranquil, relaxed. http://www.shaklee.net/pws/library/products/20656_talksheet.pdf
It's worth the read just to see the ingredient list & understand how the product works. (Products have proven efficacy with $$-back guarantee)

Yeah I hear you I just posted about my sleep pattern/problem lately. It has been going on since the holidays. I'm exhausted. All I do is dream about everyday life stuff. I have been journaling to get all the worry thoughts (I hear the monkeybrain thing) and just try to relax my brain.

Oh Faith...these people literally saved my life!!! I can only believe they'll be able to help you too! I was experiencing the palpitations also and Anton told me it was a lack of magnesium. The Bone Structure-AU has been a God-send for so many different symptoms. I must say though, I don't think they do online orders anymore. A call to Ilse (Anton's daughter) or Nike to place an order is best bet. I don't think they have an 800#; here's the other # (1-337-993-9660) but it's usually a quick call as they are very knowledgeable. The product # for the 32oz is PLU387, but it comes in a smaller quantity if you only want to give it a try for now. I just tried the site & I'll include this link: http://www.ciloz.com/ All the best to you Faith!

I was there yesterday and I should have bought the bone structure-AU yesterday. Now that you said the bone structure is a battery to your heart, that might be somethng I am experiancing with palapatations and irregulare heart beat. I slept 2 hours last night or this morning I mean. And for the past 6 months my bones have been what I can only discribe as creaking. I beleive i will order it as soon as the website is up. I lived with insomnia for years...peri-meno, then meno & recently lead/cadmium poisoning so I've done my research & here's what I've learned: No sweets or alcohol after 7-8 pm. Even a small amount of exercise during the day can help to improve sleep @ night.

Before bed, I use two products: one is a Shaklee product,

Stress Relief Complex...
http://www.shaklee.net/pws/library/products/20656_talksheet.pdf it totally stops the "monkey brain" mentioned above.
For more info on where to purchase Stress Relief Complex (product #20656 in search feature) visit www.shaklee.net/lgmi

The other is a product from my naturopath; (see last line in description)

Bone Structure-AU
A combination of: Calcium, Magnesium, Boron, Cobalt, Potassium, Zinc & Gold.
This formulation supports the bone structure and supplies the specific minerals needed to feed ones bones.
If you de-mineralize a bone, the main minerals are calcium, magnesium, boron, cobalt, potassium, zinc and phosphorus.
By adding the above minerals to your daily diet, your body can assimilate and restore the bone structure.
Your bone structure is your battery to your heart.
The added benefit of the Gold has been found to improve the sleep cycle.

It's available through www.ciliminerals.com.

I sleep like a baby!!! I wake up before the alarm & usually feel refreshed & ready to greet the day!
Hope you find a non-prescriptive, holistic product/products that work for you!

Jessica, my patterns are messed up too right now. In four days I've only had about 6 hours sleep, and that was in my recliner chair. I've been stressing over several situations which I don't have control over. I've tried repeating the serenity prayer, which usually helps or at least puts things in perspective, but no luck this time. It's tax prep time so I'm working more hours and I've even been taking work home to get everything ready. Hopefully when I get everything done for the companies I work for I'll sleep better. Coming here and reading and posting is what I do for a break. Usually I can find something that's been said here that gives my spirit a lift.

I know how it is, Jessica. Mine is the "monkey brain" as my friend puts it....I'm a stress ball and for some reason, ALL of the things that I could worry about or have ideas about start kicking about 10:30 pm...it's almost like a feeling of "dread" that comes over me....
I have a Valerian tea that a friend made (it has valerian, skull cap, chamomile and some other stuff--looks like she went out in the yard and put a bunch of dead daisys and stuff in a bag :)) but it kicks my bottom, I have to say. It makes me drowsy sleepy and I don't suffer any ill effects in the morning. I'm right out of bed before the alarm

Well it is actually 3am right now! I have had a sleeping problem for 3 years now. I believe it is menopause. I am 51. So I think that is it.
I go on the computer and read the posts on MJF. lol So then I am up for the duration.
I felt creepy when I took melatonin. But it helps my mother, she thinks it is wonderful.
I even drank a sleepy time tea from bulkherbstore.com That didn't help either.
The only thing that helps me is a hot shower, it relaxes me . But then sometimes I have to take 2 or even on occasion 3 a night.
If I read I get excited about what I am reading.
But as Alee said, writing helps. I write my prayers to God.I go to the dollar store and buy those plain lined journals. That is something I should do more often at night.

I find reading, if only for 10-15 minutes when I crawl into bed really helps. It slows your mind down from all the things that go on during the day, things to do, etc.
Just don't read MJ's Ideabook before bed or you'll be up sewing until 3, planning the garden til 5 and then all the great things you're going to cook!! That book is just so inspiring.

If that is the case you might want to try "Free Writing"

What you do is set a timer for say 1 minute or 3 minutes- whatever you feel most comfortable with. Get a piece of paper and a pen and just start writing whatever comes to mind. It can be gibberish, lists, "I don't know what to write..." etc. Just let your inner self guide you. Your first couple of sessions might not produce much- but soon you will be filling page after page with writing.

The trick is to not stop to edit. Don't worry about crossing that T or dotting that I, Don't worry about misspelling or gramatical errors. Infact, don't stop to read it at all!

It really helps to just get stuff out, and sometimes just getting stuff onto paper helps.

This is something I learned in High School from a very intelligent teacher and it has always served me well.

I'll have to look up that melatonin. I don't think I've heard of it before. Back when I was working, I took that Rozerem stuff (the commercial with Abe Lincoln & the beaver). I think a lot of my unsleepiness is always having stuff on my mind and thinking of stuff that needs to be done.

If I am really desperate I take melatonin. Its a natural supplement of the melatonin our body produces to put us to sleep.

Other wise I will drink a nice relaxing herbal tea. If that doesn't work or if I am out of herbal tea I will drink a glass of warmed milk. It really does work!
