A New Update! Finally!

I put the project on hold as some of you sent in embroidered patches that I wanted to incorporate. Then life got busy. So, today I worked on the quilts. I finished the top of Aria's, and made Julia's. Tomorrow I will cut the batting and the backing for the quilts, and assemble them. I hope to have these two finished tomorrow. Then I just have two more to do- one for Reo (Aria's brother, and one for Aria's sister)

Aria's Quilt so far:
8 squares by 10 squares

Julia's Quilt so far:
7 squares x9 squares

The Center

Hi There!

This is the first one that I have made for the family! It is currently 4ftx3ft. Should I make it 5x4ft? I know some of you are doing embroidered squares, so I think I will make them into pockets.

It has come together nicely even though it is wrinkled in this pic. Part of that is because I laid it on on the snow and partly because I haven't washed or pressed it yet. Please let me know what you think!!

Hey ladies! Lets make a quilt for Julia and her daughter! Her daughter was just diagnosed with Leukemia.

So here's the deal. I'm not the best sewer in the world, but I am willing to take a stab at this project. I would love to make them matching jean quilts since I am sure they will have to be spending time in cold hospital rooms.

If you can spare a leg or two of an old pair of jeans or if you can run down to your thrift store and buy a pair to send along, please do! Email me for my address. I will start working on the quilt with jeans that I have laying around. I will make the quilt out of 6 inch blocks- so if you want to pre-cut them for me, please pre-cut to 7 inches (so I have a margin for error.

I already have quilt batting and material to use as backing. Lets do this really quick like so we can get them their goodies soon!

Alee, I have old jeans that I could send for you. I have lots so I just need to know how many squares and what size. I have more than enough to finish these quilts for you.

I have all the squares cut out for Reo's blanket and it is 3/5 of the way done for the top, and the batting and backing will be super duper easy. I am cutting on squares for Rianna's blanket and I might have to scavenge or ask Goodwill for a too-used to sell pair if they have such a thing. By my calculations I have about enough material for 48-50 squares and I need 80 to do the same size as the others. But they are coming along great! The ripped pair of my hubby's jeans really went a long way! I might have another pair of "skinny" jeans lurking somewhere so I will look for that as well.

These are awfully fun and I am thinking I am going to start making them for family. They are so nice and thick and cuddly! And you could even do fleece instead of cotton quilt fabric for the backing to make them even more plush! :D

Well, with all the craziness with my car getting destroyed, the quilt project got put on hold. But I spend about an hour getting my supplies prepared tonight and...it looks like I need some more denim.

So please, if you have some old jeans that you won't use, please either send the legs to me, or 7 inch squares. They need to be a full 7 inches so I have enough for the seam allowances. I need to cut some up tomorrow, but can't find my rotary mat, so will be replacing that tomorrow. I need at least 100-120 more squares possibly more. I have 1/5th of Reo's blanket done and maybe enough material to do that again. Then I have Rhianna's to do.

I have just enough of the butterfly fabric (I think!) to do Rhianna's back as well, and have bought some green cotton quilt fabric that looks like ultra suede for Reo's as I couldn't find any pirate themes.

Please email me if you have squares or denim you could send and I will give you my address!

Thanks!

Hi ladies!

Julia and Aria's quilts are done! yay! Now I just have 2 more to do so that Reo and Rhianna can have a quilt as well. I hope Reo doesn't mind that Aria's is getting delivered tomorrow! I am in love with these quilts- nice and sturdy. Heavy but not overly so. I washed them both a couple of times and- HURRAY! No seams came undone! :D

Jonni did that! Isn't she clever! There is another square that I need to applique on, but it has a lot of seams in it so I need to seam rip them first and then work on it.

Thanks everyone! I got the backs put on today, but didn't sew straight on Julia's so I am going to seam rip it tomorrow and re-sew it. I started working on Reo's and Rhianna's quilts but need to cut more squares from the fabric that Annika donated. It's going to be tight, but I think I have enough to finish the next two.

Actually I suprised at how easily this one is coming together! I just had to learn that when I am matching up squares, to the the seams to match, the seams have to be opposite of each other. Otherwise they look offset by a fraction of an inch.

Nancy-

Because my goofy camera has to have TONS of light, but it's flash is so strong that it whites everything out unless you are atleast 5 feet away. So I took it outside where the best light was :D
