DAY!

the weather here in virginia and delaware and maryland and d.c. has been so delightful since i've arrived! i am having the 'mostest' wonderfully blessed visits!

spent friday, saturday and sunday with my auntie 'em' and cuzin' carol (she's also my god-child) (ha! CHILD! she's almost FIFTY .. and i swear .. she looks like a beautiful movie star! (actually, she very much resembles jackie kennedy in her "White House" days (only carol's hair isn't 'bouffant'!!)

auntie em jus turned 88 .. and although she is 'starting' to slow down a little (she only weighs 89 pounds .. just a tiny little wisp of a woman) .. SUCH A LADY!!! she is one of the two aunts who raised my brother, sister and me .. and i love her dearly!! we had such fun and giggles .. and i learned more family history. she is my dad's sister .. the youngest of nine children .. all who lived to be quite elderly (she told me some good news .. it runs in our family to die of 'old age'!) she told me how each of her brothers and sisters met their husbands and wives (only her sister anna (my nannie) didn't marry.

we travelled to fredericksburg to visit the family cemetary and to put roses on my nannie and daddy's graves. (oh my gosh! we were talking so much ..ha! electing and impeaching presidents! solving the world's problems .. and bragging on our grand and great-grandchildren .. (i'm MUCH younger than auntie em and am a GREAT grandparent and she is JUST a GRAMMIE!!! well ... anyhoo .. i missed the fredericksburg exit and i SWEAR .. i drove 45 miles past the exit before i realized it!!! that is a 90 mile round trip .. but even the ride 'back' was short .. cuz' we didn't skip a beat in our conversations!

i'm home sweet kentucky home gurlfrenz! got in yesterday!

had several mos' magnificent memorable days with the 'grands' in DELAWARE .. celebrated both their birthdays (Jan. 8 and Jan 14) .. spent Mountains of Money .. and loved every moment of it! took both grand-daughter, Jennifer and daughter, Kristen, for 'new doooos' .. jennifer had her long blonde hair dyed brown and looks FABULOUS! Got a 'haircut and style' for Kristen (she likes her blondish hair) .. she looked ADORABLE .. kept telling her she looked 10 years younger .. a much 'softer' hairstyle' than she was wearing when i arrived. We all went clothes shopping (ha! even JAMES .. my grandson .. wanted 'skateboard' clothes! GREAT-GRANDSON, Andrew was such a DELIGHT to hold in my arms and chase after (he's almost one and a half!) ADORABLE! they all live five minutes from the OCEAN .. and while we rode BY it several times .. i never did get out and run wild in the waves! NEXT TIME!

MARYLAND .. after my fun time in Delaware .. i headed for Maryland .. where i stayed with gal-pal Cyndi .. got there late at night .. but another friend, Mary showed up on the doorstoop and we stayed up late laughing and telling tales! Next morning .. we all headed for some ANTIQUING! it was fun re-visiting old haunts .. i mostly got BOOKS and FABRICS! Friday evening .. we went to stitchn[bleep] (the doll club girls started gathering weekly to sit and sew) .. oh my! how wonderful it was to hug on those girls necks and catch up on our lives! i thought we'd never say goodnight! toni had put together the most wonderful film of doll club photos .. and my heart especially bubbled when i saw the title: WE OWE IT ALL TO FRANNIE (i was the founder and momma of the crooked tree hollow rag doll club where we all met .. for it's ten year existence).

saturday was another heart-thumpin' adventure ... i visited my brother (whom i had not seen since our dad's death in december '06). i swear .. he makes me laugh more than any man i've ever met! what a love! i adore him! got to visit with the rest of his family too .. his sweet wife anne, his daughter, anna-beth and her FIVE little children .. ranging in age from 2 months to 10 years! ADORABLE! what a hand-full!! it's a family overflowing with love!

THEN .. i had a 'date' with an olde boyfriend! now THAT was fun! i haven't seen him in about 20-some years! He looked much the same .. hair a little whiter .. but heart and smile just as big! we went out to dinner and talked over olde times. NO hanky-panky .. just olde friends getting together.

NOW .. that is not to say that if i'd seen another 'olde beau' that there wouldn't have been a little bit of hand-holding going on! BUT .. time got away from me and i didn't call him! (next time!)

was going to go to a movie that evening with friend cindy when i got back to her house .. but .. we decided to hit all the local crafts stores instead! back home for a mid-night snack and i had to hit the bed cuz' i had to get to the airport in the morning!

honey-hunk met me at the airport .. he has a TURRIBLE cold in his chest .. but we still managed to go out to dinner and see a movie (SWEENEY TODD) .. i enjoyed it .. but lotsa' blood .. which made me look away from the screen a lot!

it's good to be home .. i roamed the cabins for a few minutes just lovin' on everything until my head started nodding and i hit the bed!

it's COLD here in Kentucky! and we're looking for a 'vacation' spot. hank had found some 'carribbean cruises' for us .. but i'm not crazy about sittin' in the sun .. eating fattening foods .. listening to 'olde people's music and entertainment' and visiting 'touristy port towns' .. soooooooo .. we decided to try to find an adventure somewhere in Mexico where we can explore aztec ruins and learn more about Mexican history. anyone have any great places like that where you have visited in MEXICO to recommend?

xo, frannie

Glad you are having such a wonderful time. I talked to my son in Virginia today he says the weather is fabulous. I also sent him the link for the puppet play house as he is planning a couple of trips with friends from base to the area in the next few months. Have a great visit.

before visiting Glen Echo, my auntie em and i met my 'aunt pat' (who was married to my daddy's brother, Ben) .. for a lovely brunch at a beautiful restaurant beside Glen Echo. It was wonderful being with Aunt Pat again too .. i had not seen her since moving to Kentucky. She just turned 91 .. and ALWAYS had RED HAIR .. but she had finally decided to let her lovely WHITE HAIR crown her head! She is as beautiful as she was when i was a child. LOTS more wonderful family stories! Aunt Pat was always my most favorite 'married' aunt. oh gurlz .. i am having such fun .. will write in a day or two (or when i get home) of my delightful days and nights with daughter, Kristen and the 'grands'! It is now 2:30 a.m. .. and i am getting up bright and early in the morning to take grand-daughter, Jennifer birthday shopping! good night sweet princesses! xo

GLEN ECHO AMUSEMENT PARK, MARYLAND ... The Puppet Co. Playhouse is one of the few puppet theaters in the United States built from the ground up specifically for puppetry. The new facility, finished in 2003, was designed for the greatest sensory experience for viewers of all ages, and seats up to 250 people. The Puppet Co. presents a selection of performances from their repertory of over twenty different productions and also hosts' shows by visiting production companies. They present a total of about 475 performances annually, and are one of the few year-round puppet theaters on the East Coast. They have been cited in both local and national media for the unique nature of their programs, and the artistic excellence of their presentations. Phone: 301.320.6668. Web site: www.thepuppetco.org

one of the highlights of my visit here has been surprizing my cousin Allen (we share the same birthday one year apart) .. at his Puppet Company! We have not seen each other is about 15 years! Allen has always been creative .. writing, directing, making costumes for and putting on PLAYS our entire childhood .. he became fascinated with puppetry as a young man .. and had a puppet theatre at the Smithsonian Insitute in Washington, D.C. for quite a few years .. and has had a most wonderous Puppet Theatre (the BEST i've ever seen!) at Glen Echo Park. (as a child .. my brother, sister, cousins and i spent many, many hours at this delightful and quite famous amusement park! I could SWEAR .. i saw a photo of me in the 1940's riding the 'cuddle up' in their museum film and photograph! I had such a warm, fuzzy feeling walking all around ... i took a ride on the merry-go-round of my youth .. i visited the oppulent 'ball room' where there were well over a hundred dancers doing ball-room dancing to live music in this nostalgic building ..on a sunday afternoon! i visited the swimming pool (since filled in) where i almost drowned as a child .. and dang well came close to taking a friend with me .. (she was attempting to 'save' me .. i floundered and thrashed around .. and she brought me up gasping for air 'sans' my bathing suit top!!! WHAT A MEMORY .. i NEVER DID learn to swim after that! AND .. the olde roller coaster is long gone .. but i watched films of it .. remembering that as a young child .. i had my ONE AND ONLY roller coaster ride here at Glen Echo .. i slammed forwards as we hurtled toward earth .. smashing and almost breaking my nose on the bar i was clutching with a white-knuckled death grip! (i have NEVER ridden a roller coaster since that day!) .. i smiled at these remembrances as i was sharing them with a park ranger (it's now a national park) who had also visited glen echo in the 40's and 50's! he showed me special archived films. OH WHAT A LOVELY DAY!

cuzin' carol and i went to see ATONEMENT (which is getting lots of academy award nominations .. FANTASTIC cinematography .. great acting .. but we both came out scratching our heads about the 'story' line!!! we also had lots of fun 're-doing' her bedroom! we were like teenagers .. pushing and shoving furniture .. hanging pictures and re-arranging books (that took the longest .. cuz' i wanted to look through every one of them!) carol is a major fundraiser for the American Red Cross .. she is 'single' (although she was married many years ago and has two beautiful grown daughters). she dates an array of FASCINATING men. but is not particularly interested in getting married IF and UNTIL her 'soul-mate' comes along! i adore her!
