Gee, Ronna, what a scary event; we saw the flooding on the news and I thought to myself "Fernley, NV ... now, why is that town's name familiar to me?" Glad to hear you and your family are okay...hope the rest of the town will recover quickly.

A man on the next street came over and asked Larry if he could store a couple of his hot rods in his shop...guess his house wasn't damaged but his shop must have been just a bit lower to the ground. I've spoken to the wife when she was walking her dog,but just called him "the dodge guy" since that's all he has...and we're somewhat a Dodge family too. Nice to be able to help someone out in even a small way. If he's seen the shop or some of our vehicles, he knows how much they are valued and pampered and his will be safe here. As with most farmers where the barn is bigger than the house, it's the same here.
My stepmoms brother called today and said there was a 4.1 earthquake about the same time as the canal wall broke, centered about 20 miles from here, so it might have contributed to the problem. I thought I felt one, but then thought maybe I'd just dreamed it, with the dog being so skittish about then. I do remember asking my husband at the time, but he may have been asleep...he can sleep through anything. News keeps saying an earthquake was not the cause...but......
Having a disaster this huge and this close to home sure does get one's attention!!! I will always be greatful for not being affected...maybe I really have done something worthwhile in my life to have been spared!

Ronna girl,
We are so thankful for that guardian angel girl, and thank you so much for letting me know you were okay. Believe it or not I left the house to sew a wee bit. Thankful that you are nice and warm and safe and praying for your neighbors.

Thanks again to everyone...rather nice knowing there are people who actually care! Have not heard a word from my sister or Larry's brother....not that I'm surprised, but one might think.....
Scary enough to realize that one block over is the start of the damage on this side and what might have been. I'm keeping that guardian angel right where she belongs, watching over me!!!
I can just hear my other half being glad all my 'stuff' is ruined and he can haul it all to the dumps.....NOT.

Thanks for all the good thoughts. We were so fortunate...the mess starts just the next block over. When I saw that, it was scary to realize just how close it is. Our property is actually even closer to the irrigation canal than where it broke, so it would have been bad if it had broken even closer. All the land under water was ranches just 10 years ago, so much has been built here since then. Our town/county has been the fastest growing in the nation for several years back. From about 7,000 12 years ago to about 21,000 now. I imagine some who bought those homes didn't even know the canal existed. It's been in place for nearly 100 years for irrigation here and the next farming town of Fallon. A spot broke about 11 years ago and flooded about 60 homes a couple miles south of here. My husband walks along the canal every day and sees spots where it's leaking all the time. I don't know that the people who are supposed to be monitoring are doing the best, but surely will be a big investigation now.
Thanks again for all the good thoughts. I was glad for our power to be back on after 12 hours and get the house warm again...and very thankful we were not flooded like so many nearby.

Hey Ronna, I just saw on the weather channel about the levee breaking..OMG! How aweful I'm so glad to hear that you and your home are unaffected. Now...what about your storage room with all your goodies?? Hopefully that wasn't in the path of the water either!

Let me know if you need anything.
