Once again, thank you, Farmgirls, for taking my challenge. Just think of what 22 farmgirls can do this year to change the world!

New Year's Day. Look at the beautiful, shiney fresh 12 months we have to work with!

This morning, I was reminded of myself as a child. I feel today the same way I felt when I was given a fresh box of Crayolas and a big piece of paper: overwhelmed by possibilities, joyful because I get these beautiful colors to work with. I can still smell the crayons and the paper. I remember feeling filled with excitement. I could draw anything I wanted! Fashion dresses! Horses! Flowers! I could even color my horse blue if I wanted to! This is the way I feel today. On this first day of the New Year, I can do anything I want. I can change the world.

This is your thread, Challengers, let's use it to inspire us. Post ideas, information, lovely things you have read about or witnessed or created. Post your feelings. Let us share.

Until next time,

love,
Patricia

Today, I dropped off my copy of a wonderful book, "The Life Organizer" to a friend who had loved it when she was at my house. I found a used copy on Amazon to replace it as my own, but little did I know when I dropped the book by her house, she was home sick and needed some cheering and reading. YAY!!!

XOXO, Libbie

These stories are wonderful and really are only a drop in the bucket for the wonderful things farmgirls do everyday. I am so happy reading them, and they inspire me to do more.

I remember mama saying, Charity begins at home.

Thank ya, kindly....it just goes along with one of my goals this year, to be a better person, to have a better soul.

I've enjoyed reading everyone's contributions--what's more, is that the more you note your efforts, the more you come to recognize the need, and will be more conscious of your outward persona. Self exploration of the best kind--it benefits everyone!!!!

I can see the headline now, "Farmagirls Change World for Better!" You guys are keeping me on a high that's lasting and lasting. Thank you so much for sharing. Your stories inspire us all and make us all feel wonderful!

Jonni, it's never too late to join the challenge. All we're doing is challenging ourselves to spread love at least once a day. That could be anything from giving a smile to someone who doesnt' have one to donating money or time. As you can see, our Farmgirls are finding creative ways to meet the challenge.

I firmly believe that we are making a difference in the world. I also believe our efforts will inspire others to spread love, too.

I'll put you on the list. Welcome!

love,
Patricia

Ok here's one for today, well I work at the store and a lady just came in wanting quarters for the parking meter. We are not to just give them out unless it is a patron because then we have NO quarters and have to close up and run to the store. I explained why we don't give them out but she seemed either slow or foreign, I couldn't tell so I gave her them and smiled genuinely. Thanks to to remembering the challenge. :)

This is just a tiny little thing, but I guess they all add up, huh? We've had bitterly cold temps here lately. As I got out of my car after parking, I noticed the lady parked next to me had dropped her gloves and the wind was blowing something fierce. (she had already made a run for the store) Remembering Patricia's challenge, I grabbed them just as they were about to fly under her car. I knew she'd need them, so I got them and stuffed them into her drivers side door handle.

I also want to do something for our local spay and neuter clinic this year, so I thought about saving my pennies for the whole year, and giving them a check in December 2008. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to save my change, now that would REALLY help them. Also, I think I'll donate a sale from my Etsy shop too. They are a great organization who enlist top notch vets who donate their time to perform the surgeries, as well as giving low cost vaccination clinics, and finding home for homeless pets. That's where we got our little Nikki pup 8 years ago. I just want to give something back to them.

Happy New Year to all, Lu

Aw Debi that is a heart felt story. I really wish there was no evil in the world and everyone could realize that the world goes beyond themselves and that everyone has a story. Some day I want to visit the Middle East and South Asia. I have a friend, dated him for 2.5 years, in Pakistan and I have an open invite to visit but unfortunately circumstances stand that it would be too risky. I really really want to visit the Holy Land, but once again. I am saying a silent prayer for the man you met Debi and for the world and peace and all. I'm highly sensitive and sentimental today.

I work in the bakery at a large supermarket chain.Right next to me is the produce. There is a man in the produce section who is new here from Iran. I struck up a conversation with him the other day. Such a sweet man-I wanted to know his story. In broken English he told me he had been a French professor in a University in Iran. He had to leave because of political persecution. So now here is this very intelligent man working in the produce section. It broke my heart-it reminded me of the book The Kite Runner. Anyways- I bagged up some of our leftover gourmet cookies for him and wished him a Happy New Year!!
I believe we all have the power to brighten the little corners where we are, a big smile, a touch,-you never know what people's lives are like, and what a small kindness can do!!!

YAY! Here goes I started out the "New Year" appropriately. Had Bailey's then some champagne for the toast. Socialized at the party and then the hostess finally got a break to enjoy the bubbles so I did all the glasses and cleaned up before going to bed. I swear I'm an old 25 :-p THEN in the morning everyone was STILL asleep and hungover and I was not so I popped up and cleared ALL the dishes and threw out spoiled food and cleared the table threw out the beer bottles put away unused clean glasses washed and dried the dirties and all to her surprise of me just finishing up. All she had to do in the morning was quickly mop the floor and tidy up a bit here and there! I thought that was a good thing and a much needed break for her. My hands are so sore, itchy, and blistery cause I did so much scrubbing and the cleaner was harsh :( But I felt wonderful helping her and knowing she could enjoy her new year new day:)

PS this was before the challenge but right around Christmas we went to a late night dinner at Eat N Park and had an elderly waitress. She was the typical grandma that you wanted to snuggle up to. Tillie was her name and she was just a doll so I tipped her a WONDERFUL tip for there. When I paid I commented on how great she was and make sure Tillie gets this. The other sweet waitress said oh yes she'll be pleased. I just wanted to make her smile. I don't have much $ right now but I believe in Karma and the law of attraction. Put out good you will receive good:)

How fun reading this!

We started the New Year off right last night, Hubby and I BOTH went outside in the snow to clean Hoss's stall and water, even though my sister is visiting from KY. I gave him a big hug and said How much I Loved everything he did for us, commuting up to a full hour to work every day and helping me stuff my pillows

It was a great start to the new year, I'm sure that I said more than this to him last night but I need another cuppa coffee.

Patricia -- I love what you said about the crayons! This new year, and every new day in fact, are clean slates that we get to "color". It is very exciting!

Reading everyone's posts of kindness brought tears to my eyes. How wonderful. I can't think of an intentional kindness that I did yesterday but I got a blessing anyway. I stopped by to see Missy and Christien last night. My 9 year old grandson, who at that age is short on hugs for his Nana at times, leaned over, gave me a huge hug, and said "Happy 2008 Nana". Then we snuggled on the couch together to watch a movie. I loved every minute of it!

A local lady here did some work for our farmgirl chapter to help us out over the Christmas season and she's not actually a member of our group! So, I had this idea this weekend to make her an apron to thank her for her help. I have all I need to make it, and I'll have the time on Friday. I hope it goes over big!

Whoo Hoo! This is an awesome challenge! It makes me feel so great! Doug came home and I told him that I really appreciated him working so hard at a job that he doesn't like (for the good of our family. He was completely blown away by the random praise and he said it meant a lot to him to know that someone appreciates him so much (He has been having some rough days at work). I made him smile and set a good tone for the evening. Yay!

Holly - there is a thread titled A Challenge, under Across the Fence, that was posted first by Patricia a few days ago. She has challenged us all to make the world a better place this 2008. Doing things, little or big, that improve the world around us - "pay it forward" or "give back", but consciously doing something positive and with good and godly intentions. She says it a lot better.

We all do these things, and if we share our good thoughts, words, and deeds, the ripple effect will be grand!

Doug has been working all day, and Nora is pretty easy to please ;) So I am going to make husband a nice dinner and let him have an "anything you want" night tonight. He can have the remotes and the computer (he's easy to please) and I am going to make sure I let him know how much I appreciate him working at a job he hates.

My hubby hugged me today as I was trying to get to the trash can. I hugged him back, and said "I am trying to get to the trash can!" He said teasingly," well that is what I am, just an old trash can.....and I said to him,"no honey, you are a treasure chest." He really smiled.

It only takes a little moment to make someone smile. Gosh, I pray I can keep these thoughts in my mind as the days go by! Thanks, Patricia, for getting us rolling on the Challenge Train!

WOW, Patricia, your post gave me the magical chills. I have similar memories of crayons and possibilities - and it's true, isn't it. There's nothing holding us back from being who and what we want to be on the inside. Isn't it wonderful?

This morning I was tired - late night but not with parties, with kidlets. My husband came up and gave me a hug, and what I felt like doing in that moment was complaining about how tired I was. What I DID, however, was hug him back, tell him Happy New Year and that I love him like crazy. His eyes shone.

XOXO, Libbie
