Hi girls! I love to make cloth country dolls and with bits of antique lace and buttons, etc. Soooo, I was thinking wouldn't it be fun to make a mascot for us farmgirls and send her around to visit? She could travel from farmgirl to farmgirl via snail mail and have her picture taken with something(or someone) meaningful that depicts each persons personality or farm, then send her on to the next person. Maybe a scrapbook could accompany her? She could even go on vacations, that is if any of us farmgirls get the time for such things!! I was thinking of designing her to resemble MaryJane since she is the reason we are all together. So what do you think?? Is this another of my wacky ideas or would it be fun?? Luzy

I'd love the doll to come to my town of Minneapolis. Mary Jane will be here in Person Sept. 16-18. Mary Jane loves dolls and so do I.

About the traveling doll, fantastic idea. How about adding a journal? Write down some good insight or something that happened down on the farm. Love getting something in the mail that is NOT "junk" mail or a bill....

We need someone to volunteer to lead the project...can be called the hostess or topic mamma or Dolly's first mamma. If you make a doll to start with it would be good to send along a pattern for the clothes.
Anyone?

And also you would need to start a new topic about this. Do you know how to do that?

Welcome Jerusha,
That is a great idea. I would love to be in this. Just ask for signups and state the rules...suggestion is only 2 weeks to visit then be shipped on. I'd also say to keep in mind the weight or size of things to add because of shipping cost.
When my chapter did a dolly like this I started with her naked (had to make a blankie to keep her warm though) and button for eyes to give some personality. The next person gave her hair, the next one worked more on the face, etc. she disapeared after only a few people..so that's a danger...but worth the try to me. Let's do it!! The receiver could make or add anything she wanted...preferably something in theme of the trip or activity she did with that farmgirl.
Sounds fun!!!
I'm joining.

I would LOVE to do this. I could make a doll and if we wanted to start a mailing list and a deadline for how long the dolly could be kept before being passed on. Then we can take her wherever and take a picture. I just joined the sisterhood and along with my 8 year old daughter we would love to do this as a project.

Is anyone still interested? Email me and I can get this going. I think we will start working ont he doll regardless since it sounds like a great idea. Maybe we could even add a little project connected with her like making a little something for dolly and sending it along with her to the next person. By the time she comes all the way around I can add everyone's pictures and experiences with her to a blog and everyone can see what she has gathered in her travels along with the pictures. What do you all think?

Hi,
my Internet chaper "Bees without Borders" started a traveling doll...I made it and sent it on ...after only a few people had her then we never heard about her again...many of the members in that chapter kind of dropped out and we don't know where the dolly ended up. This is just a warning...but of course I'd try it again...we just have to be considerate and hope and pray that people keep their word and send her on to the next person in a timely manner.

Lucy,
this sounds like fun. what would you think about each chapter having their own doll? maybe she could travel within the chapter, on vacation, events etc. We could each make a scrapbook page for her (yet to be named) and then maybe post it on the web to compare notes? this would save shipping.
