I was looking around the thrift yesterday, got a couple of cute little primitive looking things, and was about to leave when I thought I would take a look at the books, which I usually do, because I only have about 50 here that I haven't read yet. Anyway I spotted a children's book, "THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS" and noticed it was Illustrated by Tasha Tudor, so put that right in the cart. Then found another book that looked interesting,"A MIDWIFES STORY". Which might come in handy if I have to deliver a baby.Put pictures on my site. Jack and Dave wanted to remain on top but I said people could still see them even if I added a couple more pictures.

my friend, gail wilson, knows tasha .. and has told me lots of fun stories of her. someday i would love to visit her home .. before tasha heads off to heaven .. gosh! she must be 207 years old by now! however .. i surely am not going to head to that part of the country in the wintertime! a few years back .. some friends and i went to gail's for a wonderful, wonderful doll-making class (i'll post a pic of the doll that 'gail and i' made! we girls found ourselves in the midst of a SNOW STORM .. which even gail said was a 'big one'! now you jus' can't have a diabetic (moi) .. a pregnant woman (that would be my darlin' daughter, wednesday) .. a friend who gobbles water pills like jelly beans (friend cyndi) and another who just drank four gallons of water at the airport while waiting for our rental car (friend janis) .. and then sit in a FIVE HOUR 'traffic jam' on a country road .. several miles each way!! and NOT have to everyone of us PEE!!! and oh my yess!!! we all did! what a fun time it was .. we found new friends from all the 'theatrics' we had to go through to create a 'human curtain' while we took turns peeing t'wix and t'ween cars in 4-foot snow!!! ha! we even had other ladies come use our 'curtain' ... i'll be seeing these gurlfrenz in a couple weeks when i go back to annapolis .. and i'm sure this story will be re-told again .. and again .. with everyone's version of it!

Wilma, can't believe you met Tasha T. at the show, wonder if it was the same show I met her? Was it back in the 90's? She is quite feisty....a quick story.
Some good friends of ours in North Carolina who happen to be very good friends of Tasha and visit her often at her farm told us she was to be the guest at the show. They told me that Tasha had commented on our cabin when she saw it in Country Living that first time and that we would be at that show. Our friends told us we should introduce ourselves to Tasha and tell her who were were, also tell her that "she owed them a letter". As luck would have it I found her early in the show looking at (what then was the $100. room) and said hello and introduced myself. I reminded her who we were and then gave her our friend's message about the letter. She looked right at me and said "I am pleased to meet you, I admired your log cabin - but I can tend to my own correspondence"!! It was then I found out just how feisty she was!

I bought 2 of her gardening/lifestyle books a few months ago. They are wonderful and were very reasonably priced. It's amazing what she has done in her life without all the modern gadgetry

Oh Nancy, good for you! The Wind in the Willows is such a neat tale too! It is my middle son's most favorite story! He was a reluctant reader and that book turned it around for him when he was a little guy. He reads all the time now-so WIW is one of my favorites too, just for that reason.

Glad to hear you're brushing up on your midwifery skills too-never know when you'll be called to action! LOL

I am a HUGE fan of hers and have nearly all of her books. If you don't have it, try to find her cook book; it's wonderful!

I also am knitting a shawl like the one she wears in her books. If anyone wants the pattern, let me know and I'll post it. It's very easy!

Hey Amie...I also forgot to ask...where in the Finger Lakes are you? I'm working on getting a farm somewhere in Ithaca, if the Universe has mercy on me! :)

Hey, did you know Tasha Tudor's family has just announced they are starting a museum dedicated to her art and lifestyle? Check it out! I know I'd love to visit. www.tashatudormuseum.org

I have one of Tasha Tudor's books, but I can't place the title (at work). She lives a truly simple life and her illustrations are very charming! I would almost say that she is one of the pioneers (?) of this lifestyle during more current times...very reminiscent of the 1800's. Although I couldn't live that way (I like my conveniences-lol!), it's interesting to read about her life. It's almost fairy tale-like and whimsical.

Nancy ~ we are kindred spirits! I adore Tasha Tudor. I have a couple of her old illustrated books as well, and an inspiring Christmas Book about her that contains her work. I just have to run over and see what other treasures you found!

Nancy...ahhh, I love Tasha. I guess she might be most folks' model on how to REALLY live simply. Alas, I think I'm sort of addicted to electric light, but I admire her will to live in a simpler era! :)
