Ok, so being the frugal farm gal I am, I have been trying to decorate our apartmetn for little or no money. So I have been checking Craigslist for free items- things I can paint and fix up cheap. Well I emailed a lady about some shelving she had and wrote me back saying the first 2 people who contacted her never showed up, so she was leaving it on the lawn. Now I was the 3rd person to contact her and I asked her please don't leave it out there, I will come get it tomorrow and even bring $5 to show I mean it. She still left it out there and it is gone, taken by someone driving by.

Why advertise if you are just going to get frustrated and just put it on the side of the road anywho?? Maybe I am in the wrong, but I thought it was a little unfair.

Cheers,
Heather

Oh, I forgot to add that I am on our local freecycle site as well. I haven't been a customer yet, but always on the look out. I think it is a great idea!!!

We've had a couple of incidents like that too. I guess the idea that anyone can access Craigslist IS scary. You will have legitimate ads, but you never know, there ARE sometimes people scamming things there. Sometimes you can find great stuff, but YES, be careful!

We had a Craigslist incident here in Minneapolis.
Someone advertised for a nanny. The girl showed up at the arranged public meeting place and the guy took her and killed her. It was very sad. Soooo, if you use Craigslist, please be careful.

Heather, I think Craigslist IS all around strange. Too many people looking on there for bargains of all sorts...which isn't bad, but you're bound to get some loonies just browsing...I've heard of flaky folks being all on there...I find that free also can meant "take it or leave it"...there's nothing to lose, since it's free, right?

Definitely check freecycle.

You can't really blame the lady...she'd already had two people not show up and telling her you'd bring $5 with you wouldn't guarantee you'd show up... But I do agree it can be frustrating at times.

Heather,
Check out a freecycle group in your area...they're through Yahoo. Sorry to say, I've come across some strange happenings from Craigs List and know others have too.
Good luck!
Ronna
