I just took a big book, called "MARY EMMERLING'S NEW COUNTRY COLLECTING", in to bed with me to look at. I have had this book for a long time and just thought I would look it over again. Well as I am looking at all the pretty pictures I come to some pictures that look like Frannie's house. So then I start reading and it is her Cabin. This was when Hannah and Art lived there before Frannie. So lots of pictures of the inside and of all Hannah's things. Anyway I was just so surprised! I do belive I will ask Frannie about this. I would think she knows about it. Maybe you all know about it and I just happen to find out. Sometimes I just don't pay attention.

and I see Miss Wilma just ahead of me on here! I added a post yesterday about you, wanted to tell all the girls just how talented, creative and hard-working you were but for the life of me I am unable to locate that post - has anyone read it????? I can see already that keeping all these folks and posts straight won't be easy - and I thought regular email was a challange!!
Art and I are headed down to Wilma's sale this weekend and can't wait to see what I can't live without! Wish you all were closer so you could join us...I'll tell you all about our visit when we get home.
Is everyone making Christmas goodies? I just made Chocolate Truffles, Buck-eyes, Mincemeat cookies and Divinity for packages and a few local friends.

Hi Fran, not only do I love your home tucked in that wooded area but also loved the idea that it is 2 sharecropper homes joined together. I can well imagine you have fun decorating as small homes can be a real - but rewarding challange. I'm sure we can exchange some ideas there.
In my early years I lived in rural Alabama and we had sharecroppers on our land. I've always felt I was a part of really important rural history and have fond memories of my life there which was in the early 1960's.
yes, I will figure out how to post pics soon.
My best, Hannah

hannah,
i know the photo posting can be a hassle, but once you master it it really makes sense and it isnt so bad after all.
now if i could just get my blogspot to co-operate, suddenly it wont post pics for me.
anyway, i have faith that soon youll be posting all over the place.
and i for one will be happy to hear and see from ya.

here is a pic of my little farm house. it is actually 2 sharecropper homes that were joined together and is a small cottage of about 800 square feet, 1 bedroom, 1bath. it is on 16 acreas and is truly my castle. if my computer co-operates i will try this week to take more pics as it should be decorated for christmas, as olivia my grandaughter has pointed out to me.

Hi Fran, I read with interest your above comments and thanks for remembering the articles and our signs. I really do miss creating them but stopped at the right time I believe. Would you believe we never kept a NEVER ENOUGH THYME sign?????
As for you wondering about having a 'caretaker' for your little cottage I wouldn't worry...I always feel just as the old saying "a house is just a house until those who live there make it a home".
I hope to get some photos sent of our home now but honestly, the procedure on here seems a bit complicated and this is not the address I use to send photos so will probably have to send them to individual email address to those who have asked. We LOVE our little home, it reminds me of the last home my mother lived in so I was immediately attached...and although a small, 2 br brick we have managed to create a unique country/primitive look by just the way we live from day to day. I will pass along a comment from a little 3 year old neighbor who recently came to visit. As he came in the front door he looked around, smiled and said "wow, I like this"! We have no idea what caught that little guy's attention but it was sweet.
Nice to hear from everyone, wish I had more time to be on here. I'm hoping I can find someone to exchange recipes with soon - my other passion. Hannah

miss wilma, i feel as if i have met you, but i am sure that if i had truly met you, i would certainly remember it!
i have been to roundtop 3 times. the first as a buyer/seeker, the second as a co-vendor and the third as a co-vendor.
i do know warrenton, zap hall, but quite truthfully, i am still a baby duck when it comes to this venue.
i share a booth with a longtime friend, reid, who makes wonderful hats and jackets from recycled wool and ties and fabrics. they are hard to explain, but i do have some post on my blog spot about her products. she and i met over 30 years ago when our children were young and we were both in other professions besides crafting. at the time i was a new mother doing my internship in music therapy, and reid was a staff person at the hospital and a therpeutic recreation person.
anywho our friendship has endured over 30 years, our children have children and our dh's i guess have become accustomed to our road trips.
reid was invited to be a featured textile artist at a venue in roundtop and she invited me along to participate.
my crafting is not quite as prolific as hers, so if i had to have abooth by myself at roundtop it would be mighty tiny indeed.
i love roundtop/warrenton, the whole experience, but it is a little long for me and i find the weather can be quite brutal, even though it is the climate that i spent my first 20 years in. it kinda wreaks havoc with my health. so at this point i am not sure i will return next time as a vendor.
if you return please alert me, so i can properly meet you, i will probably go down for a couple of days as a shopper.

love

i love this kind of kismet.
i remember when i first made the connection that the frannie in kentuckey lived in the house that was once featured in country living magazine, once of my favorite magazines. \and now to know that Hannah
has joined on board and was the original owner. that is too cool.
i still have that magazine, because it was one of my favorites, and the signs inspired me to paint some signs here, but they were inspired, not inspirational, like yours were.
anyway, i love this story, it gives me hope that one day someone will love my little cottage in the woods and become its caretaker. i worry sometimes that someone will just scrape it off the earth and put a 3000 square foot megahouse here.
i hope my house has a new guardian angel one day like hannah's has.
thanks nancy jo, for connecting the dots for us here....oh, henry!
as we say in texas, what a great story.
ps. hannah, cant wait to see what you've down with your new home.

hello everyone...those who know me also know that me and this computer are not the best of friends! I fight with it everyday....hard to learn modern technology at my age. I just registered with Mary Janes Farm today and already I have driven Carol crazy I'm sure! I tried to bribe her with fresh, warm cookies from my oven as a peace offering.
Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to chatting with some of my old friends and meeting alot of new. We met SO many wonderful people when we had our hand lettered sign business all those years and of course I can't ignore all the wonderful publicity we had with our 1993 cover story in Country Living magazine. Thanks to Mary Emmerling who was totally responsible for launching our long and exciting career - at that time she was a new editor for Country Living and wanted to be the first to offer our log cabin to the readers. THEN....one of the photos chosen for the first article was taken on the back porch of the cabin, in this photo was a sign that we first created in the 1980's and that was NEVER ENOUGH THYME!! Each one was hand crafted and hand lettered, I wish we had kept a total of how many we made. An interesting story with this sign....when the photographer was photographing the porch another sign was hanging and it said:
ROW BOATS FOR HIRE and I had painted an old, painted row boat with much detail. He suggested that we take that down and put up a simple sign - I wanted the rowboat until he convinced me that once the magazine was on the newstand I would regret painting thousands of rowboats! I've thanked him ever since!
Oh, I could go on all day, such wonderful times we had with it all. But we never changed our feelings about country decorating and our work and to this day that is still our passion. Maybe I can figure out how to get photos on here to share our little country home. Any suggestions?.
I am anxious to hear from you. Best to all, Hannah

hey gurlfrenz .. i'm finally 'home sweet kentucky home' .. been in toledo for almost two WEEKS .. HA! i only planned to stay the WEEKEND .. and took TWO outfits with me! darlin' daughter, Wednesday, had a conference in DENVER .. (she's an environmental attorney with the Ohio Attorney General's Office) .. and has NEVER spent a night away from baby Sofia .. and only the ONE WEEK in lucas' life where we kidnapped him and brought him to his 'ga' and 'ga-da's' to spend a week with us! sooooooooo .. i volunteered to stay the week .. THEN .. at the last minute .. we all decided to go to Columbus for the weekend to do some 'christmas shopping' .. SUNDAY morning i was going to head back home .. but frankie had to stay another night (he's working on a big political project in ohio) .. sooooooooooo .. i drove wens and the kids back to toledo in an ICE STORM .. spent the night and drove home today (again .. more ice) .. which, of course, didn't stop me from hitting a coupla' my very most favoritest antiques shoppes on the way home .. took me TWELVE hours to make a SIX hour trip! but that was o.k. .. i had a wonderful time just reliving all the fun with the kids and thinking about how they change from visit to vist! gosh .. they are so adorable!!! we are so blessed! i took some pics .. and in the next coupla' days will post some in my 'gathering room'.

got'cher e-mail miz nancy .. sent ya' one back .. you should see all the wonderful changes and improvements we've made to Freedom Valley Farm! friend Sugarbucket is the most wonderful primitive craftswoman and she and her husband and sons have done delightful things here (keeping the integrity of the age of the cabins). i adore the wonderful porches they have built for us .. extending the 'living' and 'socializing' space .. and my primitive antiques look like they've been here forever! gosh .. i sure wish there were some photos from the 1800's .. someday i will research the original families who lived here .. i have met the 'bradshaws' who visited and told me how it was when they lived here. we have the sweetest neighbors .. and the young couple who moved up the hill with the two darling little girls in what i affectionately call "the pink palace" (because of all the little girl pink plastic toys that are often on the lawn!) .. but .. i'll take pink toys and sweet neighbors any day over pristine unfriendly neighbors! Life being Lived to its fullest! we have always had the most wonderful blessing of having good neighbors wherever we've lived!

i bought a bunch of country living CHRISTMAS issue magazines today .. a lovely early basket .. some linens (oh gosh .. i got the most wonderful 'tatting' from the bottom of an olde victorian slip .. i think i'm going to make these into 'angel gowns' for some dollies i have in mind to make! AND .. when i got home .. a HUGE box filled with two dozen vintage APRONS was waiting for me!!! Friend, Pat from High Button Shoes sent them to me .. they were her grammies .. she is 'culling' her collection and knows i love aprons!

I'll hit the postie tomorrow FOR SURE to send up lots of boxes of swaps and dollies and books, etc. etc. etc. that so many of the gurlfrenz have asked for! Be watching for them for sure!!

well, chilluns .. it's good to be home .. missed honey hunk like wildfire .. but he knew i was doing a loving 'grammie' thing .. have a huge stack of mail to look at .. a ba-zillion e-mails to answer .. have to unpack .. but most of all .. gotta' go snuggle with that man of mine! xo, frannie

Frannie has shown photos in the past of the magazines you speak of, before she owned Cabin Creek, which she changed the name of recently. It is so interesting to read of Hannah, and of Miss Wilma's friendship with her! That is so wonderful!

I want to go and see Hannah's posts here! But I can't find her! I looked under Hannah, but to no avail.

By the way, the old Country Living Mags cannot be beat, can they?!!!!!

Miss Wilma,
How interesting that you know Hannah. I knew they were in the Country living Magazine, but boy was I surprised when I saw all the pictures in the "MARY EMMERLING'S NEW COUNTRY COLLECTING." I have had the book for awhile, its from 1996.
I will be waiting on the front porch for my package from you. I look often at your site to see if you have added any new things. Thanks for you nice comments on my blog, I have a lot of fun doing that. Sure would miss my computer now if I didn't have it.

They were both, They live in a very small house now ,because of their health, but it is a picture. She just has a way of decorating that I dont have. Some time when she feels better I would love for her to maybe teach me.I can do my house up decent but she knew exactly how her cabin should look and thats how it was. She can make something special out of anything Miss Wilma
