Renfro Valley, Kentucky - Loretta Lynn

Loretta Lynn in her fancy red dress .. we were guessing she must be in about her 70's now! The whole performance was much like a 'visit to your front porch' .. very informal .. surprize artists (a gospel singer by the name of 'dottie' .. who must have been 400 years old .. but WOWZER .. could she ever belt out a tune!!! Loretta's son (who seemed to have been a bit of an 'outcast' for a few years according to some 'stage banter' sang too .. GREAT country voice! (loretta was doin' jus' fine too!!!!!) Loretta's two teen age daughters were very good and i especially enjoyed her grand-daughter's singin' ... reminded me of what loretta lynn must have been in her 'hey-day'! The theatre was packed with fans who i swear sang her songs louder than she did during the performance! And they LOVE to TALK (YELL) to her during her performance .. mostly "LORETTA .. I LOVE YOU"!!!!!!!! afterwards we all stopped for a 'breakfast' at the Cracker Barrel before heading home to our own comfy beds!

what a fun little 'vacation-ette' we had with Kathy (Sugarbucket) and her honey-man, Eddie!
We headed south on Thursday morning last. Drove to Pigeon Forge (about a 5 hour ride) and went to Dolly Parton's huge WILD STAMPEDE show! (it had a Christmas theme at this time of the year .. sooo .. you sat in either the NORTH POLE section or the SOUTH POLE section .. i think the rest of the year you are either Union or Confederate! It was fun .. and dinner was a WHOLE rotisserie chicken, a slab of pork loin .. corn/potato soup and biscuit .. herbed baked potato .. corn on the cob and and flaky apple dumpling! NO UTENSILS .. you ate everything with your HANDS! (i think the apple dumplin' was my fav!) I didn't take any photos .. cuz' as you'll see ABOVE .. i have yet to figure out on my camera how to take 'indoor/dark' pictures!)
well, as usual on this 'blog-thing' .. i am putting the 'horse before the cart' ... i'm starting at the 'end of our trip' with our visit to the Music (opryland-style) at Renfro Valley, KENTUCKY on our way home to see the legendary Loretta Lynn and her family in concert. (picture ABOVE).
i'll be posting lots more photos of TENNESSEE (which will also be ABOVE this posting!) it is good to be back 'home sweet kentucky home'! xo, frannie
