oh farmgirls .. i am so excited to share some of the stories of our visit with maryjane, katie, meggie, lucas and precious stella jane.

in my 'gathering room' (blog) ... i'll post pictures and tell more stories over the weekend .. for now .. jus' 'STORIES OF IT'. xo, frannie

maryjane and family arrived down in the valley at about 2 p.m. (slow time) .. gave us about an hour to give hugs and relax before heading for 'our 'hometown' (GREENSBURG, KENTUCKY)!

Stella Jane .. oh my gosh!!!!! (don't tell anyone .. but i do believe she was my mos' fav!!!) she is so beautiful and personable and thrilled my heart cuz' she 'took right to me'! MUCH MORE on her later!

anyhoo, meg and lucas wanted her to take a little nap before the evening festivities (the kentucky air musta' been good to her .. cuz' she's a GREAT NAPPER!) and oh my goodness .. such a 'good little soul' .. NEVER cried .. just lots of smiles and giggles ..(well ... except when honey hunk and his bushy beard got too close to her!) she reminded me so much of our own little sofia in her 'thinking and conjuring' faces! you can just tell she was 'figgerin' things out! all these new people and places!

ohhhhh .. i just can't stop talking about her!!!

anyhoo ... hank, lucas and stella jane stayed behind so stella jane could take a nap .. they joined us at 6 p.m. for dinner and the rest of the evening's fun events .. meanwhile the rest of us gurlz (maryjane, meggie, katie and me) all piled into my van and drove the 12 miles into town. en route .. i showed them our wonderfully fun drive-in movie theatre and the small 'bank' where hank and i encountered a 'bankrobber'! first, we visited our new Greensburg Library .. (where we met up with sweetie-pies Janet Christensen from Eastern Kentucky and Ivy Peppers from Tennessee) We met our librarian, shelly pruitt, who told us all about our different areas for adults, teens and children .. our computers .. and our nation-wide 'genealogy research section! (people from all over the country come here to look up records of their pioneer ancestors who traveled west! ) the library had a twenty-five cents book sale (fifty cents for one .. second one is FREE) going on and the girls did a little shoppin' .. those suitcases got heavier and heavier at each place we stopped! AND .. our library had purchased all of maryjane's books and had a display of them!

next .. on to Glovers' Station Antiques Mall on the square .. (that dear little maryjane thrilled my heart when she showed me a sweet little 'snowmama' and 'snowbaby' that i had made that she adopted from my booth!)

then we walked beyond the olde courthouse so i could show them our 'heritage gardens' .. and explained to them that all the 'twig fences and archway was made by Warren Wolfe ... an incredible local artist and that the benches were sawn, hammered and erected totally by FARMGIRLS .. (i explained that "i" hammered in TWO nails .. but that i was quite sure that those TWO had to be taken out and re-nailed!) we walked around the water building and tower to view the absolutely INCREDIBLE paintings on the walls that were done by another local artist (Trinia Corbin) .. it was scenes from Green County. it truly is AWESOME! We peeked across our long (and HIGH) footbridge .. and i told them they would be walking across it 'in the dark' later that night! i think this made miz katie a tad nervous!

next .. we drove about five miles out of town to the home and shoppe and farm of Cathy Murry ... COBBLESTONE FARMS. (and FINALLY .. i remembered to take out my camera and start taking pictures!) Cathy is sooooooooo very dear! She had wonderful gifts for each of us! We all bought treasures galore!

I absolutely could not believe how i managed to keep us all 'on time' to each of our appointed destinations!!! i can assure you THAT has NEVER happened before!

Back to town and to the adorable Plaid Peacock for more shopping .. and where townsfolk were starting to 'gather' for our deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-li-shus evening meal! Every seat in Lucy Tucker's Tea Room was filled and the conversation was lively.

NOW .. lissen' to this!!!! our dedicated, hard-working, handsome, wonderful MAYOR Lisle Cheatham and his fantastic new assistant, Judy Weatherholt, were THREE HOURS away at a three-day conference as NORTH as you can get in Kentucky .. Covington .. (across the river from Cincinnatti)! They had attended a luncheon that afternoon to receive an award for our town of Greensburg .. and they DROVE BACK TO GREENSBURG ... THREE HOURS just to meet and join us for dinner .. Lisle told us all about Green County and who we are today! THEN .. he presented a beautiful glass bell ... our 'TOWN CRIER' bell' to maryjane .. (this honor is bestowed on visiting 'dignitaries' in hopes that they will 'let the world know all about us'. After dinner, the Mayor and Judy had to turn around, get back in the car and drive the three hours back to Covington for another two days of meetings. GAWD LUV' 'EM!!!! I will be eternally grateful to them .. and will do all i can to get our Mayor elected PRESIDENT of the United States someday!

After filling ourselves with our 'gourmet' soup/tart/salad/dessert dinner .. and oh my .. it was delightful (and by the way .. this very little tea room (Lucy Tuckers) won the top award for restaurants in small Kentucky towns .. and it was up against lots of restaurants in actually 'not-so-small' towns!!! and WE WON FIRST PLACE!!!! THAT's how delicious it was!!!!!

.. we walked a block back to the Olde Courthouse where we were met by lots of townfolk and about ten teenagers from the BRIDGES TEAM (like Gifted and Talented in most schools) .. they led us on a 'lantern-light' tour of our 'historic square' telling all about the historical homes and buildings and people who had come before us.

Town was all a-twinkle with lights and autumn finery! We have SUCH a dear town!

.......... WELL GURLFRENZ ... It is NOW 2:30 a.m. .. and my forehead is hittin' the keyboard .. so .. i best be gittin' to bed! but be watching tomorrow for stories of our Olde Courthouse Welcoming 'Shivaree' .. and of our Thursday 'Sit and Sew and Socialize' with MaryJane!

good night sweet princesses! xo, frannie

Thanks, Frannie. I don't know when we'll be able to get over that way yet. We've been talking about doing it for a couple years now. But when we do, you bet I'll drag my girlfriend from Somerset with me!

I know I'll be going up to Moscow sometime next year. Maybe twice. It's a 6 hour (or is it 8?) drive and we own gas pigs, if you know what I mean. My dd is planning to go to college there (waiting for acceptance letter). So, we might make a trip up in the spring to meet with Alee and check out the town and campus. And/or we'll make the trip in the fall to get her moved in.

Hopefully, the time(s) we go can coincide with when you'll be there. That would be just too much fun!

Great photos and tales, Frannie. I just love your place. It's so homey and comfortable looking. One of these days I'll be making a trip back to NY (driving) and I'll be stopping in Somerset to visit one of my best friends there. How far are you from Somerset? I'd love to see you and your place in person.

Frannie I wanted to thank you for all the hospitality. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and the shopping! I laughed when I got home and I realized I had only taken 5 pictures. It all went by so fast. I truly appreciate you inviting me to meet Mary Jane and family and to stay the night in your stranger room was a true treat. It was so special to connect with so many farmgirls and finally put faces with those names. Thank you again, you are such a treasure to me.

Thanks for the invite, Frannie--
Asked my mom for a weekend retreat at Shaker Town (as a Christmas gift) sometime in January, so I'm thinking we could head on down for a visit, if you wouldn't mind me bringin' the hubby. He would love to know the history of your place, I'm sure.

I'll let you know!

Alright, Frannie--
I read it all, and I'm so thrilled that you folks had such a wonderful time together. Had to keep myself SUPER busy both Wednesday and Thursday so I wouldn't think too much about not being able to come, being just a couple of hours away and all.

Looks like you did a tremendous job, and I so enjoyed seeing all the photos!!!

How about some photos of the farmgirls gathering, Frannnie? We are dying to see photos of the Big Day!!

I am so jealous you got to meet my dear friend Ivy before I did!!
CabinCreek-Kentucky Posted - Oct 14 2007 : 09:22:08 AM
ohhhhhhh tammy gurl .. i''m sure glad you got to meet 'the gurlz' .. i never got into the 'beading' either .. not PRIM enough for me .. but i do admire what they can do though! someday i'm gonna' try some 'primitive beads and button' jewelry-making! ha! it's on my 'list of things to do in this lifetime!'

and YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! we all say (behind her back .. cuz' she IS sensitive about it) .. that Cyndi must have been vaccinnated with a 'phonograph needle' .. the chile CAN TALK!!!! but she was my best buddy when i lived there. we always said that we were 'connected' at birth! actually, cyndi with the only surviving child of TRIPLETS .. and i think she's jus' talking for all three of them! hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm .. now that i think of it .. the girls probably say the same thing about me! I CAN TALK UP A BLUE STREAK!!! guess that is evident from all my 'epistles' that i write .. but i am a GOOD LISTENER too!

hank used to listen to cyndi and me talk and couldn't for the life of him figure out how we understood each other cuz' we would both jus' be ROLLING .. not missing a beat! i told him that we women had the ability to all talk at the same time and understand every word every other woman was saying!

Pat Deal (from Australia) is one of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet! Was Deb Nees not there? she too is sweet and oh so talented! how about Donna Schramek? She is a LOVE!!!

Oh .. how about Mary Glossner? was she there? she is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo talented! (Actually made costumes for the broadway (or off-broadway .. not sure which .. but a BIGGIE) show: CATS! there is NOTHING that chile' can't make!

gosh .. someday i'm going to just SURPRIZE you all and show up at one of the friday night gatherings!

oh yes .. back then (hmmmmmm .. and i guess i still do!) .. my hair style/color changed with the seasons!

thank you sweet rachel .. it was so lovely to finally meet you! i love HUGE gatherings .. but i actually LOVE-LOVE the smaller ones even more .. where we can all sit and really get to know each other. my 'mission' on this gathering was to get as many women (and men wednesday night) as possible to meet and learn of MaryJane's FARM .. and all she has to offer!
Thanks for the sweet words about Freedom Valley Farm .. it is a FUN home .. filled with love and 'good times' .. and past history and history in the making!

Thanks for those sweet words about my honey-hunk .. ohhhhhhhhhh FER SHUR!!! i got a 'keeper'!!! I know that God in Heaven had us 'born' for each other .. and to meet at precisely the perfect time in our lives! We've been married 31 years now (July 4, 1976) .. the 'bi-centennial' of our country! (hank claims 33 .. he includes the two years we lived together before we got married!) ... and i was married for 16 years to another wonderful man (Jimmie) .. who, by the way .. is Hank's very best friend ... they met THROUGH me! So .... i have surely had an abundance of blessings!

Thank you again sweet friend .. and dooooooooooo come visit over and over and bring that 'honey hunk' of yours to visit too!!! (i shall be announcing some more 'sit and sews' .. and 'roamings of the back roads' soon! xo, frannie

Hey Frannie! I sure did. Met with them Friday night. They were very nice. They like to do beading, which I'm not into, but Becky was quilting and Pat was felting. I made a bead necklace with Cyndi and we talked most of the night. Toni has a beautiful home with so many country dolls (a few you made) and a beautiful craft room. she really didn't say alot, I guess that's because Cyndi never stopped talking! lol. We had diner, talked, beaded, and said our goodnights. OH, I saw a pic of you girl! You had long brown hair and a straw hat on!!Too Cute! I guess I'll go hang out next weekend and see how it goes! Take care and relax awhile!!

thanks for all your sweet words. and let's definitely find a time to gather again with you and 'the fam' ...

all those sweetie pie townsfolk are raving about the grande time we had 'in town' on wednesday too!

we had a 50's SOCK HOP last night (once a month .. during each summer .. we have the most wonderful MUSIC outside the courthouse .. where everyone gathers for some toe-tappin' .. geeee-tar and banjo strummin' and singin'!!) last night was 50's .. and honey hunk and i went down and 'jitterbugged' t'il i 'bout dropped! lordy! i love this place!

i'll be postin' to all my 'kentucky rambler's' list of ya-ya's about some more 'git-togethers' .. and i look forward to ya'll joining us ... BUT remember .. i also definitely want YOU and your family to come for a fun sit and sew real soon too!

THE SCARY 'HAIRY MAN'
Hank adored Stella Jane too ... She did let him hold her .. but ha! as you can tell from the expression on her face .. she was not too sure he wasn't the 'boogey-man'. Our own sweet year-old grand-daughter, Sofia, always has this SAME face .. which within seconds turns into a WAIL .. when she first sees him each visit .. but after awhile .. she warms up to him and giggles and smiles and has him wrapped around her little finger! I do believe Stella Jane had the same effect on Honey Hunk!

LUCAS - MEGAN - STELLA JANE ... "WE ARE FAMILY"
WHAT A PRECIOUS PHOTO .. THIS ONE OUTGHTA' BE FRAMED! PRECIOUS STELLA JANE WITH HER PRECIOUS MOMMA MEGGIE! STELLA JANE IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND ENDEARING. I WAS HAPPY THAT SHE SPENT A GOOD AMOUNT OF TIME IN MY ARMS!

MEGGIE IS INDEED ALL A MOTHER SHOULD BE .. IT IS A TRUE TESTIMONY TO HER OWN MOMMA MARYJANE AND THE LOVE SHE WAS TAUGHT. I ADORE MEGGIE .. SHE REMINDS ME OF MY VERY OWN BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER .. IT WAS LIKE HAVING MY OWN LITTLE 'WEDNESDAY' WITH ME DURING THIS VISIT. AND I AM INDEED CONJURING UP A TRIP TO IDAHO WITH WEDNESDAY AND FAMILY TO MEET OUR NEW 'IDAHO' FAMILY!

meggie is one of those 'god's favorite children' who comes to this earth to touch the lives of others .. to show by example .. to teach LOVE. (that surely does seem to be something special that comes out of maryjane's farm!)

a very proud momma .. and stella jane had a tight grip on that 'nana' .. she like bananas a lot!

sweeeet little country dress on stella jane
she dressed sooooooooooooo very cute!!!!

proud parents .. wonderfully dear sweet family!
there simply are not enough great words to describe
maryjane, her farm, her family, her friends .. just gather together
every 'good word' you've ever heard .. and you are one teensy step
towards who they are!
