I did not know for sure what topic to post my thoughts under - but Across the Fence seemed right. Today I met MaryJane and it was as if we had talked across the fence for years - it was as if I had waved to her from the next field many times and felt good knowing a neighbor was nearby.

Karin in Ellenwood, Georgia, hosted the warmest, most delicious (yummy food!) and entirely comfortable day I had experienced in a long time. Within the span of that blessing, I got to meet MaryJane and her family, learn to make rag rugs from experts Katy and MJ and Meg, eat like there was no tomorrow, and bask first hand in the extreme generosity and genuine love of farmgirls at heart.

It was a day I will always remember. My grown daughter, Julia (jujubee), came with me; so in addition to the above mentioned joy, I got to be with her for over 24/7, just mom and daughter. All this and Heaven, too!

Everyone who has met MaryJane has already said it all - she is modest, pretty, funny, smart, realistic, a dreamer, and an amazingly special person. You only meet a few of those in a lifetime. I am 58 years old, so you can believe me on that.

I know I will post more about our day in Georgia, but tonight my heart is filled with gratitude to Karin, who worked soooooo hard, and for the opportunity to be with women who still possess the pioneer spirit. And since we were in Georgia, I must add, they also possess the strength of steel and the loveliness of magnolia blossoms. You know what I mean.

Hey Jeannie!!

Sweetie!! it was SOOOOO great to finally get to meet you!
We DID stay for dinner! I can't believe it!
We Stayed for the tatting.. if you can only imagine.. ! i was getting so tired..
All i did was make a mess of knots out of what i was holding! But.. i Do know how to do it now.. I THINK! after i finally gave up with my several attempts.. Katy even said 'I think your just tired.." so I went & sat on the couch with Mary Jane.. (I think I could have fallen asleep listening to everyone talking.. !) it was just So much fun.. wasn't it!!
Jess & I said the same thing later too.. that we both had thought.. "hmm.. wonder what everyone would think if we just sort of leaned on to each other & sort of fall asleep for a few minutes!" That would have been a hoot! But.. not much later then that Then Karin's husband came in with Burgers off the Grill.. & everyone started fixing another plate! So we went in for round two! & got our second wind!
That woke us up a bit !!
& then our husbands both came in & we left about 8 or so I think!!

It was really the best time .. wasn't it though?
I am So glad that i decided to come.. & really happy to have been invited!

Great to see you & all the girls!!

Okay Kathy and all - how long did y'all end up stayin? Did you have dinner too? Julia and I kept a constant stream of chatter all the way back south, and we were wishin' the whole way that we could have closed out the day with everyone!

Lisa Marie - MaryJane told me all about her visit with y'all at lunch. She loved it so much and went on and on about you gals and your wonderful town.

Mima - you were with us in spirit I can tell. I hope to meet you someday.

Karin - I think that no matter where MaryJane may travel, she will not meet anyone who surpasses your authentic farmgirl spirit. You are real, girl. Thank you again!

They are just wonderful folks and it's just like you said; you feel like they've always been next door and you've know each other forever. I'm so happy that you all had such a wonderful day. Hope somebody got some pictures to share!

Nancy Jo (and Kay, and all) - you would have absolutely loved every minute. I wish you had been there, too, as it would be so fun to meet you. I met smoothiejuice, and Kathy from Florida, Theoann, nitere....and of course, mumof3, among other farmgirls. Everybody is so funny! And nice. And we brought gifts for each other - Kathy made huge brocade sewing bags for everyone, my daughter and I brought Dill Dip Mix in a jar, smoothiejuice brought Botanical Bath lotion, there were flannel handmade brooches, MAryJAne brought the new bumper sticker for everyone....you would have loved the door prizes....MaryJane books, a washboard, a vintage potato masher, cookie cutters, home made laundry soap, all made into 5 or 6 wonderful little packets. Wow, you would have been in heaven.

Anyway, I could go on and on, but you understand - it was a blast, and I wish you were there, too.

And another wonderful thing about MaryJane - she lets everyone else be themselves and talk away, and she does not require attention or special care. She is really a joy to be around. And little Stella Jane - what a sweet and lovely baby. She let everyone hold her and was very intriqued with our name tags.

What a wonderful day for you, and the other girls, Jeannie! I am hoping that I can spend a little time with Mary Jane (and other farmgirls) when she comes to Kentucky next week, but this pesky job keeps me in chains!

We shall see! Glad that you had the opportunity, and it sounds like the memories will stay with you for a long time!
