Probably my most favorite is my trunk. I have had this since I was about 10 years old. My mom was one to regularly hit all the junk/used furniture stores in and around the area I grew up in. One day her and I were out and about in this old dirty nasty store in our home town and in the very back, kinda outside in a shed were these old travel trunks. There was a square one and a rounded top one - mine was the square and it was about $20 and the other my mom got for my sister and I think paid about $30 for it. We took them home and she informed both my sister and I that these would be a good learning experience in how to restore an old piece. So out came the stealwool and I started to rub all the rust off of the tin that was on the outside and then I cleaned the hardware and restained the wood strips. I painted the plain tin black and left the pressed tin natural after I got the rust off. My dad lined the insides with cedar and my mom re-wallpapered the lids. I still have mine and I know my sister still has hers. I have never seen trunks like these at that price every again. I have moved this from college to apartments to the home I live in now. My husband wanted to sell it and I gave him a big NO, but then he wanted to get rid of alot of my "old stuff" before he understood the value that they add to our home.

I have so many, I guess I'll have to choose. I have an old shoe rack that I bought in Canton. My friend Becky and I had gone and were loving all the great deals. I bought an old trunk, she bought some smalls and a quilt. Then we rounded a corner and saw them. They are almost five feet tall and about six feet wide, and price wise a steal. Of course, I had to have one, so I paid the man and she and I headed back to the car. Once we reached it, we realized we had a problem. I drove a 300ZX, two-seater with t-tops (and standard transmission). The back was already filled with our other goodies. Never ones to be discouraged, we just nodded at each other and got to work. We first took the t-tops off, then line the t-bar with an old packing quilt I kept in my car. Next, we gently laid the shoe rack on the roof. Then, I got in the drivers side and with my left hand grasped the shoe rack. Becky got in the passenger side and with her right hand grabbed the otherside of the rack. We drove down I-20 home, with me activating the clutch and break and her shifting for two hours back to Shreveport! We got some strange looks, but you have to understand. Becky and I are determined women, and there isn't much we can't do! My shoe rack now resides in my kitchen and displays my collection of enamelware, a few antique or vintage egg baskets and my wine rack (bottom shelf). It's not necessarily a spectacular piece, but the memories behind it are priceless! Sorry I can't send a picture, as I don't have a scanner or digital access on this computer.
