My mom just called me to tell me that she made reservations at our favorite little cafe in Lexington, Kentucky, for my birthday. It's called The Garden Cafe at Flag Fork Herb Farm, and is a home from the late 1700's that's been lovlingly renovated to a restaurant, with herb gardens out back. We always go for my birthday.....two years ago, I had a gorgeous salad to start, with edible nasturtium flowers and herbs, and found to my surprise, that I'm allergic to nasturtiums!!! My throat closing up and my lips turning numb put quite a damper on my birthday trip, but now I know what NOT to get

Still, if any of you get to Lexington, Kentucky, you must make reservations there--it's the loveliest experience, and I look forward to it every year on my birthday. They also have a wonderful shop with new and old gifts and sweet little vintage kitchen and pantry items. I got a large, old lard tin, painted red with dogwood flowers on it (probably 50's, I'm guessing), and I use it for my dry cat food. It's soooo adorable sitting on my old cosco kitchen stool, and the cats know the sound of the lid coming off!

Happy Birthday! That sounds like a bad way to find out about a new allergy! I hope this year's birthday luncheon is much better!
