More and more women are joining this wonderful forum. We are diverse and scattered across land and sea... We support each other in trials and hardship...We celebrate births of children and grandchildren.. We mourn and offer sympathy and comfort and prayer when one of us looses a loved one or is hurting...We tend to health and give medicinal advice and strategie for healing...We share joy...We share pain...We lash out at times and vent, but it is tolerated and forgiven and understood...We marvel at each others accomplishments... Is this ancient women tribal bonding on a 21st century scale? We will always seek each other out...We are sisters...We are women and powerful.( Oh and for any males reading this...it's alright if you are here too and joining us...we welcome your voice too!)

I am still a new be,but the more posts I read, the more at home I feel. I am an only child, and now I have so many sisters I can hardly believe it! . I love the idea of us being a tribe. I came from a very small family, however, we raised 3 wonderful girls and have 3 amazing grandchildren. Now I have a tribe of sisters. I am truly blessed!

I've been on the forum practically forever, and been a sister in the sisterhood for 5. I've tried many niches in my life but Farmgirls are much more than a niche, and yes, a tribe is what we've become =)

Meadowlark, I totally agree...I have been on MJF for I think 3 yrs. I have asked questions, ranted, and commented on the beautiful things posted here. This is a wonderful forum for us..even my DH tells me if i need an answer to something go to your MJF ladies. This place is my home away from home.

I hadn't thought of that but you're right-as many times as I've accidently wandered away from the forum,I always come back & am welcomed. A true 21st century tribe if there ever was one. This is my 3rd year of being a farm/cowgirl!

good morning!
my honey found this topic...how I don't even know. all I can say is lately he's been vaguely making reference to "tribes".
I just joined MJF this summer, and I just went to use the computer and I found "someone" got on this forum and opened this topic for me this morning.
now I have to ask if there's any of you still out there?
whose still hanging around, or what is new?

Anastasia Good to see you are home from Yellowknife and back on the forum with us!! The catapulting pumpkin party sounds like soooo much fun! Building one must be a massive project is this a yearly event and is the catapult left standing all year or do they take it down?
Maybe you will have time to post about living off the grid, I'm not there yet but I noticed there are a few here who are interested in this topic. What is trebiges I tried to look it up but don't have a clue. Cheers ~Kathy |

I love this forum (although I, too, have been away a while) and am starting to pass along the information and loveliness to some of my girlfriends. Sent away for the Farmgirl Chapter package today after having several folks get really excited about the idea over coffee last night (actually, it was after a pumpkin launching/Guy Fawkes party, out in a field, with catapults and trebiges (sp?) the size of the trojan horse!). Good fun, excited about getting other people going and working together and having some gatherings of the like-minded. Thank you all for being here. :)

I'm so glad I found my tribe of kindred spirits. Y'all are wonderful and so giving. It's a place where we can appreciate those things that are sometimes overlooked by todays fast paced-techno-disposable life.
I haven't been able to post much; sick for a time and then back to work trying to slog through the backlog. But I think of this forum and everyone often.

Because I believe one's religion is the outward expression of our inner relationship with God, I've always attended everybody's place of worship and brought my kids as they were growing up. Friday nightes we'd go with Julie to temple. We'd go with Cary to the Buddhist temple. We'd go with my relatives to Mass. My oldest son wand his family were LDS for a few years and are richer for the experience. They have since returned to the Catholic Faith. I go to Science of Mind and was ordained in the Methodist Church. I teach the Bible from the original Hebrew and Aramaic and because of my studies I've learned how the Semetic and Middle eastern people's customs, psychichology, idioms, etc. affected their belief system. It's all so wonderful and so rich! There is so much to learn from each other!

Meadowlark - this is so soo soooooo amazing!
From the time my children were old enough to begin to understand even a little, I have explained to them my concept of "tribes." It is almost a daily thing @ home. And one of the first thoughts I had when I discovered MaryJane & the farmgirls was "Wow! More people from my tribe!" And just now I read your almost dead-on exact words that daily come from my mind/mouth. Truly, we are a tribe. And the tribe that will help hold this society, this culture, this land, this world together. Definitely not a job for the faint of heart! But with support from each other, we will find the strength to carry on, & to find delight along the way.

I will be glad to post the lyrics tomorrow when I am having my day "off". If you would like to hear the prayer since it is actually a prayer/song, go to Amazon and search under "Debbie Friedman", who is a well-known Jewish singer. Select a CD entitled "Renewal of Spirit" and the prayer/song is called "Mi Shebeirach." I know that you will find it to be as beautiful as I do; in fact, I would encourage you to order the CD. I treasure my copy.
Judaism is actually open to all. I was born Lutheran, moved on to Unitarianism in my spiritual quest and finally settled on Reform Judaism. I have been a practicing Jew for about 10.5 years. Would encourage you to look into it if you have an interest.

To give you both a chuckle, my son came home in kindergarten seeming very agitated and not at all himself. After several hours at home we sat down to our usual dinner and all *&^%$#@ broke out!Apparently our friends Dad had come in to share the Hannukah games with the kids and pass out the chocolate gelt. He didn't really discuss the religion just some of the holiday practices for Hannukah. Well we had alot of explaining to do that night. He wanted to know why WE weren't jewish, who said we couldn't be jewish and he was going to become jewish! We made plans to go to temple with our friends that weekend and he was very excited. When all was said and done we came out and he was asked what he thought.He looked around at all of us and said : "Here are the things I liked:That big box with the treasure map( the scrolls) , the ceiling and that wall (they were beautifully carved) and all those golden cups". Well, what didn't you like? "You didn't tell me it was longer than my church and they don't speak American!" Ahhh, the mind of a 5 year old! He has been back several times since as a guest, but this year will probably have a few bar mitzvahs to go to!
