Or, as I called them growing up "Honkers". If you have these birds where you live you know exactly what I mean. This is the time of year when the birds start their annual migration south, flying in their trademark "V" formation. I must directly under one of their flight paths, because for the last 2 days all I've been hearing is honking.
Aaahh...another sign that fall is here!

Thank you so much Alison ! I remember my Grandma told me that the winters were very cold. But they all loved to ice skate and had a lot of fun doing that and always had coco and one of her homemade cakes afterward. Her father was a Dr. and he rode in his horse and buggy no matter what the weather. I loved the history you told me about. Actually all my family was born in Canada. I don't know if any of them are still alive. One of Mom's brother's might be. I am sure I have many cousins around there. But, after we moved here they all lost touch.

Mary Jane.. I can't believe your Grandma was born in Winnipeg - small world!
Winnipeg is located an hour north of the Canada/USA border. If you follow the border between North Dakota and Minnesota (which is basically the Red River) straight north, you will hit Winnipeg. It was the first major city settled in Western Canada during the times when pioneers were settling the West. It was built around "The Forks" - where the east-west flowing Assiniboine River merges with the north-south flowing Red River. We have 4 distinct seasons here...summers are beautiful (if you don't mind a few mosquitoes!) and true to our reputation as "Winterpeg" we have some very chilly winters here. After Moscow (Russia) we are the coldest city in the world with a population over 100,000. Aside from the weather, it's a beautiful city with lots of culture and history, and oodles of farmers markets, parks and gardens. Do you have any other family in Canada?

I love looking up and seeing the geese flying. It is amazing how they cooperate in their flying efforts to fly in the V.

I think we must be right in their path also. They are honking all the time and flying very low. I know there are many ponds and fields around here so I am sure they stop over, alot of them stay around here all spring and summer too. It is certainly a sign of Fall isn't it? I must say I really LOVE seeing them come back in the Spring too!
My Grandma was born in Winnipeg, tell me some about it please, I would love to hear about it.
