Thought I'd check in with you all and snoop on what your entries in the fairs are? Animals, produce, quilts, crafts, knitting, preserves??? I still get excited for our county fair the second week of August! It's called the Tri-Rivers Fair and Rodeo of Saline, County, KS. I enter in open class. I plan on entering my corn, wine grapes, bread and butter mix, "farmgirl" art, and some photography. It is so much fun to browse the exhibits eating a fair treat, running into good farm folk from around the county!

I havent entered in awhile now but I wanted to share this with you. I was an activity director for a nursing home, I spent 25 years in that field between nursing and recreation. My most favorite thing for recreation was entering homemade jellies that my residents made. They were all in their 80's, it was so much fun. They laughed like kids and were so exceited. Some who were healthy enough even made the trip to the fair. They didnt win a ribbon but thet did get an honorable mention. They were so happy. They hung up the paper in their activities room. I also had a blast,it was the best watching them. I no longer work in nursing homes but I volunteer when I can. I adore older people. They made my time so special. Michele

I am hoping to have tomatoes and peppers to enter, and for sure will enter some home canned stuff...they only let each person enter 3 items like that now..and maybe some homespun yarn or soap. Our county fair is the third week in August..same week school starts. 10 year old daugher wants to enter her favorite hen...a bantam mottled cochin named spreckles. I think 8 year old daughter may enter one too...we will see. I may be ambitious and have the kids and I bake cookies together or something so the boys have something to enter too. There is a pet contest where the kids can bring a pet to enter and they all win a prize so I may let each of them bring "somebody". I love the fair too!!
