Dr's appt was encouraging to me today. My dr thinks I may have, ready for this word, plymyalgia rheumatica. Want to know what it means in english it means inflamed tissues. It can be caused for different reasons one of them being a major infection. The treatment is prednisone, which she started me on this afternoon. We should see a change in 7 days, if there is change than we are done, if no change than off to the big guns I go, alias the specialists.
Now is a waiting game again. Thanks for the continued prayer.

Hi Carol Sue! I too was diagnoised with PMR almost one year ago. There are some online support group type things out there, however they seemed more depressing then anything to me. If you ever want to chat I'd be happy to. I opted not to do the prednisone. However my symptoms eased up and became bearable. But at one point it was awful. It's good you were diagnoised. Many times it takes a while for drs. to figure it out. Use that prednisone energy while you have it!!! LOL Daisy

Here is how it is for right at the moment. Gave me two days last Wed and Thursday of high doses and then low dosage until next Wednesday when I see the doc again. Low dosage, pain back and I am pooped. This checking it out and getting it figured out is quite the journey. keep praying girls, and thanks for each one and every good thought. I still am inclined to think the diagnosis is right, the dosage is too low but have to wait and see.

I hope the prednisone is working for you, Carol Sue. I usually end up taking it every year for poison ivy and it really is an energy producing wonder drug. Personally, I love the stuff! My dad has taken it for years, too. People have told me that it may make you hungrier(I've never gained weight on it - I've been too busy using up all my excess, new found energy to eat too much! ) :D But do make sure that, if you do go off of it, that you make the docs give you a step down dose - ease you off it. I made the mistake of not doing that once, and my energy level crashed so bad that I literally could NOT even get out of bed for two days.

Carol Sue, how are you feeling now? Hopefully you are seeing/feeling much improvement.

I had to laugh at all the prednisone stories, I was on it for 3 weeks when I had a total over-the-whole-body experience with poison ivy, and I ended up wallpapering the electrical outlet covers in my kitchen, and organizing my recipes into color-coded folders! Crazy stuff, but hopefully you'll be seeing an improvement soon.

Carol Sue, my Great Aunt had Polymyalgia Rhumatica (sp) and was on prednisone for about 25 years. She became a painter during those years, worked full time, and had loads of energy. Yes, her hips also hurt. However, she lived to be 88, and everyone's hips hurt by then

Your attitude is great! Enjoy that clean house. I'll be praying for you.

Carol Sue,
When you run out of things to do at your house, come stay with me and I'll put your excess energy to good use!! The only thing I didn't like about the Prednisone was the extra weight I did not need to add. And it didn't go away when I was done tapering it off after a week or so.

Carol Sue, fingers crossed this treatment works for you. If one of the side effects of the drug is a clean home, it can't be that bad.

I hope that the prednisone works for you. I took two "rounds" of it a few months ago because I fell down the stairs and messed up my ankle, and I can't tell you - I had SO much energy -- my house was C-L-E-A-N!!! I think I even ironed my husband's shirts -- I may have blocked that memory, however. Have you noticed that you *ahem* need a lot less sleep lately?

XOXO, Libbie
