would you give to a new mother? i was standing in line at the grocery store and picked up a magazine (to pass the time pleasantly) .. it is that SIMPLE living or something like that. It was all about families. That question was posed .. and it would be great to hear the 'advice' you girls would give. xo, frannie

The best thing to spend on your children is time. --unknown

I saw this quote a while ago, but I don't remember who said it. I do think it is true. Children also need discipline. They need to know there are limits, it gives them security and shows you care about and love them.

Don't get to caught up in everyones "advice". They mean well, but get to know your baby your own way.

i adore when i see parents who truly 'respect' their children .. i was once in a skit at my daughter's school. My 'husband' and I (the husband was played by daughter's VERY handsome teacher!) were invited to dinner at the home of one of their children's parents ... the 'skit' was that we were treated as 'children'! we were yelled at .. put down .. embarrassed about little things we did I(elbows on the table type things). We were berated the entire dinner. IT SURELY MADE EVERY PARENT IN THE AUDIENCE TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT HOW 'RESPECTFUL' OR 'NON-RESPECTFUL' THEY TREAT THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THEIR LIFE .. THE ONES WHO REALLY MATTER ... THEIR OWN DEAR CHILDREN! A real eye-opener for some!

Love them, hug them, talk to them, but never compromise.

Well I am a new mother but one of the things I have learned is that there is nothing better than a happy baby!

Oh, I agree with Molly SO MUCH...

I would add, never talk about your children in a disparaging way in front of them. I know sometimes moms get together and talk about all the crazy and frustrating things that go on, but kids can overhear, and it hurts their feelings.

If you must correct them, don't tell them they are bad, tell them they are behaving badly....

Ignore when they are doing things wrong-- and lavish attention on good behavior! Pretty soon, the bad behavior will be few and far between when they realize you don't react to it!

Lots of hugs and kisses, as they will grow out of it soon and the moment will have passed!

Love, hug, love, kiss and love some more on your kids. I think that showing your child love is one of the most important things you can do. It gives them the confidence and self esteem they need to survive, along with alot of other positive things.

I can think of a couple...you can never spoil them with love, and you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
