Well it seems that DH is getting shipped out to Sedona Arizona for a job. I will stay home and do the big fair I'm getting ready for but then I will probably go stay with him awhile in our RV. We don't know anything at all about the area, except on the map it looks like it might be in the mountains. Can any of you tell me anything about Sedona? Looks like he might be there for about 6 months or so. |

It is located in Oak Creek Canyon and is beautiful, secnic, and the leaves should be begining to change. You can sightsee here and it is short drives to other places such as Flagstaff, The Grand Canyon (about 2hours), Camp Verde, Jerome, and other historic towns; Lake Powell (about 2-3hours you MUST go around the Canyon), etc.
You can google the area or look at AZ historical society pages, AZ tourism.
Be aware that several movie stars live in the area, as does David Copperfield, it is also a holy city for the new age movement - they beleive the reason the sandstone is red is energy coming out of "mother earth". So it can be pricey and a bit odd at times, but still is a beautiful area to visit!

ps- I'm from AZ, lived in Flagstaff for awhile and we used to go to Sedona to swim in the summer, shop and eat.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!

My husband and I visited Sedona on our honeymoon. It was beautiful and we stayed a couple of days on our way to the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and Las Vegas.
Since DH is a manly man and didn't want to take the "pink jeep" tours, we took the "earth spirit" jeep tours of Red Rock country instead. Our guide was named Star or Sky or Feather or something, and in the middle of the tour she whipped out her guitar and started singing a song she had composed herself. She told us how she had dreamed of the red rocks and then years later saw them on the cover of a National Geographic, recognized them from her dream, then packed up and moved, because Sedona was calling her. When we got back, DH said he wished he had ridden in the pink jeep.
Because there is a lot of iron in the red rocks, I guess there is some kind of "magnetic vortex" there that consolidates your prayers and thoughts and sends them up to the ozone... Maybe it's true because it was very peaceful there. It's a little touristy, but understated.
You will like it. Five years later I still use a photo I took there as wallpaper for my computer at work.

My sister and her husband are full time RVer's..they just left Sedona a few weeks ago...They said it was just beautiful!!

The expensive part won't be so bad for us - DH's job gives him a per diem when he works out of state, and we take our RV and cook and eat at home. The other guys who stay in motels need their whole per diem to pay their hotel and eat out, but we come out alright. Flip side is, though, they don't pay any of our gas to take the RV down there, and with current gas prices, that will probably be about $1000. |

No Alee - I wouldn't miss that for anything! When DH does this, I kind of float back and forth, a little time with him, then come home and do a show, or go to the cabin, or wherever I need to be. It's a transient kind of time for me - I just do whatever I need to do. Leave my car with my DD who lives fairly close to Portland Airport, then fly in there, she picks me up and takes me to my car. I will definately be going to the Fiddle Fest!! |

Sherri, Sedona is a wonderful place! Just beautiful, actually the best place in AZ! Cool and lovely. There is a lot of wealth up there. You will love it!

Everything Judy said! My daughter lives in Phoenix, so we've gone to Sedona once or twice a year for the last 5 years. Beautiful, but it can be expensive & touristy. It's so different than Indiana!!

I have only been to Sedona twice, but it was absolutely beautiful! It is an artist's colony, and there are TONS of shops with their beautiful wares. It is very difficult to keep your hands in your pockets and not buy tons of good stuff. It is also a spiritual center, and the red rocks formations in the area are stunning. Just google it and you will get lots of info. It is in the mountains and there are streams or rivers and trees. You will love it. I do agree with Grace, though, I think it is expensive...Have fun! I have hear it is absolutly beautiful, but a bit expensive to live there. (so I was told by a co-worker who bought land there).
It's suppose to one of AZ most beautiful locations, as it is a higher elevation.
