honey hunk and i started off our weekend at the drive-in movie last night .. saw Evan Almighty and HAIRSPRAY (john tavolata was a hoot!!)
it drizzeled and rained all evening and we kept turning the windshield wipers on .. and YEP .. about 10 minutes before the movie was over .. our battery went deader'n a doorknob! dang! i gotta' see the ending again! after everyone left .. the owner of the drive-in gave us a JUMP START!

today .. honey hunk is tinkering around in his 'barn' .. and i'm running back and forth from the schoolhouse trying to make my way through some of those zillions of boxes of treasures out there!

tonight .. we're going to dinner and a live 'country/western' show .. at the LINCOLN JAMBOREE .. less than a mile from the log cabin where Abraham Lincoln was born.

honestly, i've been to the 'grande 'ole opry' .. and the one show we did see there .. i am MUCH more impressed by our local 'Not So Grande 'Ole Opry' .. we like to go a few times a year .. and haven't been in months .. so this should be fun!

We had some good rain yesterday .. which is a 'good thang' cuz' the fleurs sure needed it and i had just planted some more plants here and about! today it is sunny .. sooo .. i'm staining fabric and hanging it on the line to dry .. in anticipation of making some more dollies soon!

tomorrow .. we are going to go to a Kentucky Lake to look at a small sailboat that a girlfriend has for sale .. (she moved back to D.C.)
we'll probably 'do a little antiquing' and dinner somewhere before we get back home too!

sooooo .. what are you gurlz up to this weekend?

True Friends, Frannie

This past weekend DH and I just lazied the days away.We dressed in t-shirts and shorts, We worked on our crafts, watched TV, took naps, called for pizza, didn't answer the phone, swung in the hammock together watching the sunset and listening to the frogs sing in the pond. These are our mini vacations. The outside world doesn't break into our realm of peace and tranquility and we wake up on monday totally rejuvenated and ready for the world again. We do this about once a month. It's so relaxing and romantic! I wish this type of weekend for everyone!

I'm okay, and no, I ran away rather than use the spray. I didn't actually see the bear. I didn't want to stick around long enough to play amateur biologist/snack. Actually, I had myself convinced it was an elk or something until I came home and told DH about it. He has lots more critter experience. He described the difference between elk and bear sniffs, and I guess to someone who knows, there's no doubt between the two. He thinks maybe it was so overwhelmed by the strong smell of huckleberries that it probably was trying to figure out what I was, since it couldn't see me either.

I was in tall bushes (mistake #1) and then I heard big, deep repeated sniffing. I made a bunch of noise to scare it off, then when I didn't hear anything run away, I decided to do the running. I don't want to be close enough to hear any critter's breathing!

We make a difference.

Oh my gosh Michelle!!! Did you have to use your bear spray? Are you ok?

This weekend I ran away from a bear! So, that ends my berry (beary) season. Too close for my comfort. Berries are nice, but coming home is nicer. Think I'll work on my quilt. NO bears.

We make a difference.

Shari-

Sounds like you really need that tractor and you can always find more and more uses for it! :)

We are trying to get ready to go on vacation! We are camping for 12 days starting next Saturday! We spent the day going through the trailer and making sure everything works, filling propane tanks, filling tires with air. Putting away everything we might need when we go.....the only thing I will have to do is put our clothes in and the cold food that will go in the fridge....that will all have to wait until the morning we leave. Everything else will be done so we will just need to hook up and go!

Tomorrow we are going to run a bunch of errands and get any supplies we might need as well! I have been making lists for days now, hopefully I haven't forgotten anything!!

Alee,

These bales are between 110 and 125#. That's why we needed the guys to help us. Feeding them was a good trade, as they did about 75% of the work. I'll get pics up on my blog this next week.

At my age, I try to be the photographer when possible. I did wrestle with a few bales that were convenient. Cindy is the strongest of us three... and she really worked at them too.

It's Cindy's boss and he's a bit of a slob... Cindy cleaned house for him all last winter and it would take her all day every other week. Still a good deal though since when we get the tractor, we have several projects.

We'll be "hot seating" it.

Gotta move a pile of horse manure about 300 feet to the compost pile area.

Level an area adjacent to the horse stalls (shed) for 2 more stalls.

Level the whole area across the front of the yard. Get rid of all the drifted sand.

Level the area in front of the greenhouse and add more compost.

Drill holes for posts for the second round pen.

If we can get to the back yard area, we have a lot of tilling and leveling to do.

If we can get the little backhoe attachment, we also need to dig a 60 foot trench 3' deep for a water line from the chicken coop to the sheep pen.

There's probably more, but I can't think of them right now.

Well we just got back from a much needed vacation. Went to Tennessee to visit Tim's family. Spent a day at Splash Country (Dollywoods Water Park) Drove up into the smoky mountains! Love it up there and walked the shops in Gatlinburg. Funny thing is, I remember Gatlinburg of 10+ years ago when all the shoppes were hand made items that showed pride in craftmanship. I couldn't wait to go back to the Pewter shop....but this time I couldn't find the pewter shop and most of the shops were junk made in other far away countries! I was really disappointed and came home souvinerless....I didn't think that was possible. I did add to the Christmas ornament collection at The Christmas Place. I will upload some photos later.

But after the 13 hour drive home with two fighting teens we crashed early last night and slept really really good in our OWN bed....lol

This morning I went to the hardware store and got some new valves and washers for the faucets. Two of them were leaking when we got home. Sneaky little devils. So we fixed faucets, cleaned the salt cell to the pool, and swam! Oh and I did manage to sweep the floors as I hope to mop them after everyone goes to bed tonight.

Tomorrow: Church, Laundry, Vaccumming, and I have a dozen or so more shutters to paint. Maybe it all gets done, maybe it don't..... I got some brush clearing to do in my future outpost and I couldn't wait to get home to get working and to catch up on this addictive board....lol

I took my laptop to TN with me but as soon as I booted her up I got a fatal error and decided not to fight with it. I would survive a week without it and I did....but now I have 243 emails to wade through....so if you are looking for me to reply to an email. Give me a day or two to figure out which end is up....

Moose hugs!

Shari- Ugh- Haying is a tough job- especially with 3 string bales. The ones I was lugging around last year were 3 stringers and they were 75-90# bales! I really messed up my knees doing that. I would certainly suggest going with 2 string bales if you have to haul hay much.

Good luck with cleaning the guy's house. If he is a bachelor I feel for you! I have done my fair share of cleaning bachelor pads!

we are playing with 2 of our grandkiddos, olivia and deven.
pawpaw is working his 2nd job as a real estate agent and will be home around 5, but tomorrow he will be off and we will have a family work/play day up at our little houses on the prairie.
pawpaw will mow, olivia will help me clear the way for the lawnmower and make kindling bundles for the winter and deven will probably complain that it is boring, cause he has become tooooo tied into the cartoon channel lately. (his parents dont have it, and we may have to delete it ourselves
anywho, it will be fun,,,,,, repeat after me, deven it will be fun!
wish i was in france, sometimes with nance in france and playing with air dryed clay.

Hmm, we're taking this weekend to move a couple tons of hay. Got two guys that Cindy works with to give us a hand in return for a cookout.

This morning is was load up 50 (3-string) bales on the lowboy and then deposit them 18 for the horse and 32 for the sheep. In another month or so, we'll do it again, only this time the sheep will get more like 40 of the bales.

We've got more projects than we have "poop" to get done... and are now in the process of borrowing a tractor... the price, clean the guy's house... not sure if that's a good deal or not. I've seen the house.

What a great weekend plan you have Frannie!

I am going to be getting caught up on my packages that I need to send out, cleaning my house, and spending time with Nora. We go berrying because I am thinking this might be the last weekend for it and I gave all my berries to Doug's Dad when he came up!

I want to see Hairspray!! Sounds funny. Our 11th wedding anniversary was yesterday, we and the 4 kids all ate at Pizza Hut and then went shopping @ Target for back to school clothing, etc.

Today we went to the uniform store to have the kids try on shoes and we didn't buy anything today as next week is tax-free day.

My hubby has to go to his parents to move some furniture. I am going to purge kids clothes to take to the consignment sale.

No plans for dinner and I should get my rear in gear!
