Hubby and I are going to a retreat in Eureka Springs this weekend. I was supposed to plan an overnight camping trip for the day before and the day after the retreat. I thought that we could stay at the Lake of the Ozarks on our way back north at the end of the trip but I never did come up with a plan for the night before the retreat. We will be getting in Thursday evening and then have most of the day Friday to hike and/or explore. I would like to stay close to Eureka Springs if possible so that we don't have much driving on Friday.
Any suggestions? I should have planned ahead but you know how life gets! Oh, we are tent camping if that makes a difference.

We just got back and had a wonderful time. We decided not to camp in Eureka Springs because the Hells Angels decided to visit that weekend also! We camped at the Roaring River State Park in Missouri the first night. Then we spend the day in ES. The hotel was great and we just loved the area. Had a wonderful retreat way up in the mountains. You could see forever from up there. On our way back we decided to stay at Lake of the Ozarks State Park. We saw a ton of deer at that park. I was amazed at the sheer number of them.
The only problem with the trip was that my hubby and I both got chiggers! Oh well, I guess the trip couldn't be perfect... |

Thanks for the ideas! I'll have to call the park in the morning to find out about camping there. That sounds very convenient to town. I've heard great things about the Passion Play but we will not get to town early enough on Thursday to go to the show.
I'll let you know how things work out for the trip. We both could use a relaxing trip with no kids or animals! |

I've never been to the Passion Play. We did go onto the grounds to see the Christ of the Ozarks though. It is HUGH! They also have a piece of the Berlin Wall there. That was pretty neat!

You are going to a really pretty place. Dont miss the Great Passion Play........it was a very moving experience for us. We usually stay at motels there so I dont really have any advice for a place to camp. Hope you have fun!

I have never stayed at this park (see below) but have been to the lake when I have visited their. It is only about two miles from Eureka. When you get to Eureka - they have a trolly system that runs through the whole town. There are places you can park and then you can walk or ride the trolly everywhere! While you are there you must see the Crescent Hotel and be sure to go up to the lookout, the Thornecrown chaple is really neat (trolly doesn't go there though), of course all the shops and restaurants downtown are really cool.
