Posted - Jul 13 2007 : 10:21:42 AM Hi, I was just wondering if anyone else freecycles? There's a lot of great things you can find on here. If something is too big to share with a farmgirl you can freecycle it. Someone in my area is giving away a microwave, a breadmaker and a dryer! Get hooked up in your area, you never know what you may come across! Just wanted to share this site with everyone!

Posted - Jul 14 2007 : 1:23:43 PM I've participated with Freecycle for a few years. I've only picked up two items, both were left on the porch with my name on them. I freecycle packing material and leave the boxes out in the carport with the person's name. I also put "no phone calls please, email only" in my ads.

Posted - Jul 14 2007 : 11:49:12 AM In Reno, many people will just leave stuff on their porch with your name on it. I always feel weird taking a bag and not knocking at the door, but know some would rather have it that way. What I've given away, I have delivered, as my spouse does not like having people come here. When I have the occasional yard sale, he moves the Harley and Corvette into the shop, not wanting anyone to be checking out what we have. Not a bad idea-never know about people. Sometimes, what is being given away is worth a drive, even with gas prices. I drove about 15 miles north of Reno for the Rainbow vacuum and was hoping it wasn't a useless junker. Turned out to be only one model newer and they cost about $2000. I had the dealer go through it and paid $200 for what he did, but have a like new machine, so it was worth it to me. I just realized I lied about the vintage linens....they were on another list for sale...$20 for both bags stuffed full. Were a couple of very old storybook dolls in the bags too. Some pieces were stained, but I got the stains out. Ronna |

Posted - Jul 13 2007 : 12:39:02 PM So you email back and forth with strangers and then make arrangements to pick items up at their house? Or invite them to come to yours?
We don't have one here. I noticed there is one an hour away on the other side of the county. And another one in Boise. The one in Boise is much bigger, but folks from the city make me a little wary. Lots of crazy stuff goes on down there.

You are so sweet! Thank You!
I do freecycle too. I just barely missed out on a huge stash of men's clothes for Doug... oh well! Another opportunity will come!

Posted - Jul 13 2007 : 10:42:48 AM My most recent freecycle goodies have been great. A Rainbow vacuum, a Rowenta iron I'm sending to Alee, a Nesco roaster, two plastic grocery bags full of vintage linens from a lady's grandmother (can't imagine the family not wanting them, but I didn't hesitate) A lot of iris and daylily and other plants, books on handmade Wedding goodies I'm also sending to Alee, a 55 gal aquarium with stand and all extras. I've given away a bunch too. Craigs list is also good, but do have to be a bit more careful with postings and answering posts. I put a vehicle on there and got several scammers offering to pay full price "plus extra" and wanted to know where to have the funds transfered. Ronna |
