 After posting disparaging comments about the high pricing at Goodwill(they really are too high, they just missed this one), I found this solid(very, very solid) small oak three drawer cabinet for $4.00 last Saturday. It was probably in an office originally, because when I turned it over, it had casters on the bottom at one time. The inside fronts of the drawers have tongue and groove joinery. The gap at the top probably held just a flat oak board to pull out as a writing surface. I saw it as soon as I walked in the door, and waved for my dh to bring a cart(couldn't pick it up, it's so heavy)...I wasn't going to walk away from it for any reason! . Of course, my dh was skeptical - he didn't see the potential!

It's fabulous!! I would be tempted to clean the wood and see what it looks like. I think it's cute as is!

It has an old, worn finish under the grime(what would be considered the primary finish right now-LOL).

What a wonderful piece! Does it have an old finish on it? Or is it raw? I think you got a steal there!

No, Jonni. This was a huge exception to their usual pricing structure. I don't know how they missed this one. I'm just glad I was there to catch it! :D I've already stored it in the farmhouse(one more thing for the guys to gripe about walking around), and I'm trying to decide if it wants to be a nightstand with a lamp on top, or a storage piece in the powder room that's going under the stairs! :)

I can see that painted and then lightly sanded in areas to bring out the "rustic" a bit. I see it painted either white with cheery red knobs or vice versa. you could affix a tiny red gingham ruffle across that open space to gussy it up too.
it does have potential.

Janice,
Way to go, see you never know what is waiting for you when you go to these places. What a good find. What are you going to do with it? Maybe a good place for your sewing stuff. Jack and Dave thought it would be a good place for their clothes but I told them it wasn't ours.

Awesome! I love old office furniture--it's my favorite kind of stuff, actually.
Well, maybe I'll give the Louisville Goodwill's some credit, but not the ones around these parts! That probably would have been $50.00 up here, and marked "Shabby Chic"...
