publications. I belong to a writer's organization that is legitimate, run by a University creative writing department, etc. I get a quarterly newsletter from them with neat articles, etc. Anyway, there was a short article in the latest issue that tells about online organizations that you can join (some are free to join and you pay for each time you use it) that offer "writers" articles, information, etc. to use when they have writers block. The kick is that the information, articles, etc., are taken from online publications and blogs!! So if you write for an online publication or keep a blog, your work may be taken and used by someone else who then receives pay for "their" work.

The article stated you should protect your work and said that for more information on that consult reputable books, print publications (there are several wonderful writing magazines), etc.

I thought of this because I've read some wonderful things on farmgirl blogs and would hate to think that someone else may be getting credit for your work.

I realize you aren't going to stop every person trying to cheat, but maybe if you implement the safeguards available (whatever they are), the cheaters might move on to someone else who hasn't.

Just thought I'd share.

I had seen this Copyscape on websites but hadn't given alot of thought to it until you posted about web contents being stolen..

It really seems like a good thing. I'm glad I could help

I'm going to add the copyscape to my website and my blog...it seems pretty straight forward and simple...

Thanks for posting those, Stephanie. I felt bad warning people without some suggestions of how to protect themselves, but the I figured maybe if I brought it up, someone else with more knowledge could add to what little I knew. Thanks for being that "someone else"

Hey there,

This is well worth using on your blogs and websites...The banner alone may scare off people.

Here's a free service that you can use to keep track of misuse of any of your webpages, blog, etc. They also have paid services that offer more protection like daily searches for anyone that is using your content.

And then you can go here and get a free Copyscape Banner to place on your website, blog, etc.

It never ceases to amaze me that someone can take something of someone else's and use it for their own gain and apparently feel they are perfectly justified in doing so. I will be better about protecting what I write. Thanks, Patti.
