It's about 6:45 a.m. here in CA. I was sitting in our
backyard with my coffee enjoying the beauty and the coolness of the day. I love to feed the birds, so we have lots of different kinds. I always leave all my doors are windows open. I was sitting out there and I heard some noises in the kitchen.I went to check because NO ONE in my family gets up as early as I do! There were two birds flying around my kitchen, banging on the windows trying to get out! It broke my heart!!! So I'm talking to them..." it's all right ,baby "and shoving all the screens off trying to make as many ways as I can for them to get out. Finally they did. I felt bad that they were so terrified!
So I went out and put out lots of food for them.
I really thought the birds were my HOMIES until the day last week when I hung my sheets out to dry and they pooped all over them!!! LOL! I still love them tho! If it wasn't for my CARNIVORE hubby- I would totally be vegetarian- I love animals! |

Well, then, like Mima's birds, he proceeded to eat off every blossom in my garden. Short memories they have. :)

It was like someone fired a blowdart! Poor little critters. They came through so fast they couldn't get their beaks out. I always made sure to close the door when I wasn't in. Another time a baby iguana came running in, and when he hit the tile, his claws couldn't get any traction. It was like watching someone on a treadmill. Shooed him out too.

Birds...what else can you do?
I lived in a place once, very open and breezy, and the hummingbirds would try to fly in through the door and out a window, but they didn't see the screen. It sounds made up, but it is true...their little beaks would pierce the screen and they'd be stuck. I'd calmly walk up, cup the bird in my hands, coax it out of the screen, and let them go past the doorway. It was really kind of thrilling the first time, but then I just felt badly for them. What a surprize it must have been to them to suddenly stop like that and then who knows what they thought when I caught them, probably thought they were being eaten. What stories they would tell.

I love the bird stories, we have hummingbirds that come to my 2 big honeysucles and the butterfly bushes and they seem to like the lavender along with the butterfilies. The honeysuckles are at each side of the one window in my sewing room, I get to smell and watch the birds. In winter, the chick-a-dees hang out in them.
I agree Alee, when we had our 2 cats they would share. Yuckkkkkkk!!!!!!

At my parent's house we used to have birds flying into the glass windows all the time. The sky would reflect off them and they couldn't tell that there as something solid in the way. So we bought window decals (like you can get for halloween and Christmas) and decorated the window. You can get them for any and all seasons. I have even seen some that make your windows look like stained glass. We never had any more issues with birds flying into the windows and so the only time the got in was when the cats would bring them in...alive or dead.
I know our cats like to share with us-- but I would rather they didn't!!

That is such a sweet story! I can't believe you still have that bird! Birds really are amazing! Watching them makes you realize not too worry so much- they don't seem to worry- and their needs get taken care of!!! Hugs! |

What a tender heart you have! Sorry about your sheets  . Two years ago while I was packing up my craft room to move, I saw a blue parrakeet outside my window holding on to the screen. It was 100 degrees outside and I could see it's month opened and his right wing was bleeding. I yelled for my daughter to help me! She hung on to my leg as I hopped with the other leg as far as I could on my two story roof! As I reached for the bird, I prayed that the bird would not fly away and wouldn't bite me! Prayers answered! We have had the bird now for 2 years and I can hear him singing now! We named him "Lucky"!

Haven't had birds inside the house, but we love sitting out on our porch in the a.m. having our tea and just watching all the differnt bird come down for their breakfast feeding at our birdfeeders in the front yard. We live on top of a mountain ridge in the Black Hills so we have lots of wildlife running around here - deer, elk, turkey, chipmunks, rabbits, all sorts of bird, hummingbirds, etc. We had 5 elk bucks with 4-5 ft. racks come through the other night at dusk. What a sight. We put out cracked corn in troths that my DH made last summer so the critters would have something to eat, especially during the winter time. Mother Nature is just the most wonderful.

We have birds fly into our windows here all the time - and it always the parrots, not the indian miners. The other day, a beautiful native dove got into the chook pen (I don't know how, must have found a tiny hole) and then couldn't find its way out again. It just kept bashing against the wire. So I had to do the same - try and coax it through the open door. It finally flew out and I watched it for a while and it seemed OK.
I love watching the birds. We have the most tiny grass finches here. They are no taller than my thumb and they are such busy little things.
