DId anyone else see the blurbs on Yahoo this morning? One boy is being punished for hugging someone and a girl in England is being suspended for wearing her purity ring to school. (The latest stupid things I've seen about schools, etc)

Hello?! What's wrong with soceity today that we have begun to punish children for being children.

Makes me sick.

Oh good grief...I never would have made it thru school!! I think we are on a downhill slide now and it's only a matter of time. Kinda scary, actually.

Seems like society swings way too far one way then another. For the last 20 years, everything has been more and more liberal and got out of hand, so now they try to clamp down on ridiculously harmless benign behaviors, like that's going to bring back the balance. Moderation in all things people!!

I saw on the news about the kid getting in trouble for hugging his girlfriend. They were saying they have a Stict NO touching policy, they arent even allowed to give highfives!! How stupid is that. I agree there are SO MANY other more important things to worry about our kids doing..

How crazy is this?!! We had a water balloon fight our last day of school, birthday parties (whipped cream), threw confetti at graduation, ditch day at the lake (some ditch when the teachers go along! he he) things like that.

Please when I needed help with bullying there certainly wasn't any "no touch" rules in effect! And to take away what a young man has worked hard at all year for acting like a BOY is inane! I hope they make a HUGE stink about it.

This though is to far the other way. And we wonder why our soceity is going downhill? Look how we treat our children?! This makes me so mad.

Here in NJ, there was a local high school that was going to have their graduation this week. You know, kids being kids, there was a water balloon fight, where no one got hurt...just wet, and the school administration in that town decided to cancel graduation altogether. No one would receive their diplomas and of course, this doesn't just punish the kids, but their families who planned to see their graduation. This caused quite a stir and made it to the New York news stations. The local radion stations were having a field day discussing how ridiculous and way out of porportion this was! Here, after all the gun violence and recent deaths in schools, this was a big deal! I remember back in the 'old days' when we would toilet paper the school and do silly, harmless pranks....it's like a tradition. Today, there is ZERO tolerance for anything, and nothing is intelligently considered anymore. Now, everyone is afraid of lawsuits and is so paranoid. Very sad!

My stepmom's grandson is going through something stupid also. He's 15 1/2, has been raised by the grandparents and quite straight laced and serious. Very much into FFA and a farm/ranch kid all the way around. He playfully gave a kid at school and pat on the back and light knuckle to the uppper arm with a "how you doing" and now has been charged with physical harrassment. The kid is much bigger than him and told his parents about the incident and they've made a big stink. He can't show his steer at the county fair and is "on probabation" at school. Has to write a 5 page essay on How to greet someone" and if the probation officer doens't like it, a 10 page. The asst principal said he would over ride the FFA restriction and then changed his mind. Last I heard, the community had made hundreds of protest calls to the man and he's taken early retirement. So unfair to the kid and now with his grandpa dying this week, it's another blow.
My grandson got a citation last week. No, he shouldn't have been out after curfew, but was walking home from a friends house late at night, on a dark country road. He has to pay a $115 fine or two days work crew. If he was in town, causing a problem, I could understand. Seems those "in authority" should concentrate on major problems, not the piddly stuff.
