Posted - Jun 21 2007 : 05:13:18 AM Hey everybody, I just popped out of my mountain of pink tulle (the parade is this saturday) to let you know that the woman who wrote "The Apron Book", EllynAnne Geisel will be speaking at the Santa Barbara Writers Conference next Thursday, June 28th at the Doubletree Inn (I think that's the right hotel) at 4pm. Tickets are $15.00.
I'm not sure how long she'll be speaking, but the workshops are usually about an hour +.

Posted - Jul 02 2007 : 1:01:49 PM I ordered the Apron Book on Amazon just yesterday and can't wait to get my hands on it. I just found out about this book on this website recently. Have loved aprons for years and have made several. Only recently discovered MJ's website and found that so many other ladies love them too. I have MJ"s books and mags and now with the Apron Book discovery I am in bliss. Any other books out there that I have missed that would be fun to add to my collection? Anything that involves hearth and home makes my list. Tracy |

Posted - Jun 28 2007 : 4:56:26 PM Well, look at you Ellyn Anne! Up to three posts! I think you might just be getting the hang of this :-) It was wonderful to meet you!
And the really "funny" part was...one of the ladies I was sitting with(unbeknowst to me when I first started talking to her) was actually the mother of a really good friend of mine from, gulp, High School!! What a small world! I woke up thinking, "boy, I wish i'd exchanged info with her". Both she and her friend and I had similiar interests-aprons of course, and knitting. I would have liked to spend more time with them. Oh, well, once in the loop, they're bound to come back around. Amanda

I am so glad you found this forum. Most everyone here owns at least one apron, if not more! It is amazing how many women here have great stories about their aprons :)
Nice to meet you! I hope you come to chat with us a lot!

Posted - Jun 28 2007 : 08:35:46 AM Eight years ago, I never imagined the idea I was noodling - of aprons as storytelling vehicles - would develop so completely and change my life in the very best of ways. And then came the cherry on top, my very first blogging experience brings me face-to-face with the blogger herself at my very first writers' conference presentation! So many Firsts.
Thank you, Amanda, for your warm welcome into this forum of lovely and like-minded aproneers, and for coming to my presentation and sitting in the front row, yet!

Posted - Jun 27 2007 : 8:01:12 PM I know. I know. There are just soooooooooo many pictures that it is going to take me a long time to put them all up and I need to start earlier in the day. I have also started working my new "summer schedule", so now i only work one job and get off by 2pm, however, i have found something to do everyday so far, so...the first chance I get, i'll put them up. I promise. I'll let you know as soon as they're on. Amanda ps. did you find a house yet?

Posted - Jun 27 2007 : 6:47:48 PM Hey everybody! I just got back from the workshop and WOW!! What a wonderful lady! I loved it... and she even pointed me out to the crowd and talked about MJ's website and how we were all talking about aprons. She had googled herself and had come across my posting. Can you believe that she had never posted anything before? We were her first post. She is in need of stories regarding linens and silver. I recommended that she post her need for stories on here and in no time flat she'd have probably more than she'd need :-) Oh, I have pictures!!!!!!!!! And yes, in case you were wondering, I did wear an apron. I took a bunch of them :-) I'll post them on my blog-which I haven't updated in 3 weeks :-~. I'll put all of my parade pictures and the pictures of Ellyn Anne and myself on there too. Maybe on Sunday (if it's not too sunny and gorgeous), or sooner. Or maybe tonight, if I don't add any words, but what's the fun of that?! What a wonderful down to earth southern lady she is. And funny, too. Someone you just want to sit down and have a cup of tea with and shoot the breeze. Amanda

Posted - Jun 25 2007 : 7:43:34 PM Hey! This is my first visit to a forum - first posting, too!
It's been five years since I attended the Santa Barbara Writers Conference and shared my "apron project," a curiosity and focus I'd been working on since 1999. I'll be back at the Conference this year, but this time as a presenter! My talk is titled One Homemaker's Apron Bender from Wistful Thinking to Published Reality. If you're in the area, and you'd like to learn how The Apron Book came to be, I take the stage Wednesday, June 27 at 4 pm. This event is open to the public and tickets may be purchased at the Conference/Fess Parker Resort. Be sure to wear your apron!
