My friend Eva and I decided to go out to MaryJanesFarm today. It was lots of fun! I baked a carrot cake, my fiance frosted it and away we went. My fiance stayed home. It's not his "thing".

First off, Eva and I stopped by and purchased some Thai Fusion (oh my gosh! Yum!) We are going to have that for dinner tonight! Then we dropped off the carrot cake for the farmpeople to enjoy. Then we meandered around just looking at all the great places that MaryJane has created. We visited the Plum pit with it's wonderful hammock and beds protected by mosquito netting- we both thought that it looked like the perfect place to sleep! The we walked past a sweet little pond and walked past some wall tents.

MaryJane was sweet enough to let us cut some irises to take home with us, so as we walked down the road we cut irises. Everything from blue to white to multi-colored irises found their way into our hands. There is an iris that has yellow-orange petals with a lighter creamy yellow towards the center of the petal. They smelled citrusy and sweet at the same time.

It was an overcast day, but still plenty warm. There was a slight breeze. At first I could not tell where this wonderful intoxicating smell was coming from... the heat was helping the flowers to release their scent and the gentle breeze was blowing the scent of a large patch of the Sweet Lena irises directly at us! We felt practically drunk on this amazingly delicate yet strong fragrance. I am not sure if I could describe it and do it justice. It isn't over powering, just a beautiful fragrance. I am sure that if anyone ever is able to make it into a perfume- they would be the toast of the perfume industry!

Everything was green and lush. We saw birds everywhere and heard even more than we saw. The chickens where happily clucking to freshly laid eggs, and the cows were laying in the tall cool grass.

It was such a refreshing visit. Eva and I both commented on how it was a restful and relaxing. Somehow it wasn't just a nice afternoon- it was replenishing as well. Almost as if my soul got fed and rested, just by walking around and smelling the flowers!

Aunt George-

MaryJane truly is as earnest and caring as you imagine. She really lives the ideals that she shares with us in her books and magazines. It is really refreshing to meet someone who "walks the walk" so to speak. I love reading about her trials and tribulations because it makes me know I will get through mine. And her example of what you can do if only you have the will ... well, lets just say that saying she is inspiring is an understatement. She has this wonderful positive energy that she carries around with her. You get the impression that she enjoys life even when it gets crazy!

I am so thankful for this forum, you ladies, and the farm!

Hugs!

Oh, Alee what a wonderful visit. MJ's farm sounds wonderful. I am so glad that she has been able to make things work on her little slice of heaven. I read in her book about the difficult times she had when she was just starting out. She has done without, she has lived by her own making, and she is prospering on her hard work, forsight and vision. Bravo for her life well spent.....so far! And the most amazing thing is that she shares it. She seems to really care about the farmgirls. Yes, she is spreading the farmgirl dream, but what a wonderful dream indeed, and Patricia, you are right. Farmgirls make do. Farmgirls adapt. Farmgirls are resilient and tough and resourceful, and what a wonderful example to follow: MJ!

MJ....if you read this, just know that there is one farmgirl with two little farmgirls who love what you are doing for women in this country and around the world. Yes, Farmgirls can be mothers, entrepreneurs, CEO's, farm owners....friends.

Thank you for the blessing of MJ's Farm,
Georgann

You know, you bring up a good point, Michelle. Farmgirls are extremely creative and also nesters. All of us love to bring warm and cozy touches to our homes, whether it's a quilt on the wall, herbs on the windowsill, hand made linens or clothing - we do it all. Why not look at the Farm (either in person or in photos) and ask yourself, "How can I bring some of it into my home?" I'm sure you'll be percolating with ideas quickly!

Farmgirl hug,
Patricia

I am glad you had a good time and it was cool too.

You should make a piece of it for yourselves, your own plum pit, peaceful flowers, etc. I agree, it sounds wonderful and magical, and it is important to recharge your batteries, whether by going to the B&B, participating in the wonderful programs, or using her advice/example to make your own haven. She is an inspiration. I get the feeling you describe in my own way at my own place too, and here in reading people's ideas and help. We need this in our daily lives. For me, that has been the biggest lesson/realization.

We make a difference.

You said it Patricia! I love how there are wonderful little touches everywhere- from fresh cut flowers in the outhouse to the wall paper in the hen house!

There truly is something magical about the farm and I think it comes from Maryjane herself as she is the heart of it. There is an overpowering feeling of peace at the farm. I think a piece of every farmgirl's heart is there, kind of planted in a special garden. some of the best nights I've ever spent were in the Plum Pit bed, surrounded by the sounds of the night (yes, coyotes in the background), the beauty of the black sky and stars, and the peace of the farm. MJ and the farm are one of the best things in my life. I wish more of us could go to the farm and enjoy what she has created.

Farmgirl hug,
Patricia
