what did you do SATURDAY? what 'cha gonna' do SUNDAY?

Saturday .. i spent a lot of time in the garden .. and making dolls for our upcoming Art in the Alley show. I'm also putting together 'goodie bags' for our vendors (about 30 of them) .. and planning 'children's activities'.

Sunday .. back to the garden .. i bought MULCH today! Then i'm having lunch with a 'garden club' gurlfriend whom i haven't had a chance to get together with in awhile .. and i might go to the 'drive-in' movie at night.

how's about you?

Sounds like everyone had a full weekend...as did I. On Saturday, I got up and harvested peas. Some we ate fresh and the rest I blanched and froze for future use. I did about a gazillion loads of laundry, and then we went to a friends house for dinner (fresh mahi mahi on the grill from his dad in Florida!!!).

Sunday, more gardening stuff--made some pesto, picked some peas, then dh and I spent the rest of the day doing our "hobbys"...me, making jewelry on the front porch, him working on his WWII airplanes inside. Went to dinner last night out, and topped the weekend off with a strawberry ice cream soda!

I feel like I accomplished something, AND feel relaxed, too!

.. My Weekend was pretty full too..
YES!! i HATE how the weekend just seem to fly by.. Since there is so much more tat i would rather do in these two days.. & the week day.. where i actually have to leave the house &go to wok at a JOB ( YUCK..)
Just drags out for soooooooo long!
But Saturday we woke up to Tropical Storm Barry! We got a very much needed nearly 4 inches of rain.. since we haven't had any rain at all to speak of.. My husband & I & the dogs just kind of hunkered down & watched movies all day & i sat & sewed & piddeled with one craft project or another all through out the day.. Finally the rain cleared out early evening.. & we headed to the H.D. & on to the grocery Store..

Sunday we got up nice & early & headed out to a Nice big Flea Market a few counties away.. then on to the Outlet Mall..

My Daughter ended up having to work Sunday nite.. my oldest Son stayed home sick with a bad cold.. So my Middle son was the only baby that made it home for Sunday dinner.. So the three of us did it easy.. Hot Dogs.. & Polish Sausage on the grill.. & this is funny.. I just told some one about this earlier today..
When the kids were little we used to use my hand turn Apple peeler to peel the entire potatoe & deep fry the potatoe.. they LOVED this.. So.. this was how we had our Fries Sunday.. Josh had fun with this..
Then we had Stawberry Short cake for dessert but i used Angel food cake!

So.. Nice busy.. but way too short of a week end!!!

My weekend was typical. I had my 'veg-out' day, which was Saturday. I basically did nothing, didn't go out, in fact, stayed in my comfortable lounge clothes (sleepwear..lol) and watched tv or dozed for a good part of the day. I don't have children, and am single, so it's an easy thing to do...I know it's not a 'farmgirl' thing. At the end of the day, I planted a couple of large pots with pretty ornamental grasses for the back yard and did some weeding and checked on my little garden. Sunday was a busier day for me. I got up around 6:30 am, watched some news, then went outside in the back to check the garden again. I bought a winterberry scrub to be planted by the edge in the back of the woods, so I dug the hole for it around 7:30 am, but needed to buy some good soil for planting. I'm glad I got that part done first (a pain...hard impacted clay dirt with rocks)....got the worst part out of the way. Later, I went to Home Depot to get soil and some rubbermaid-type shelves to be assembled for closet reorganization and some paint. I lucked out in finding a handyman doing things around the house very reasonable and nice. He's coming Thursday to paint a closet and other odd stuff. The weather got rainy and when I pushed my items in a hand truck back to my car...the can of paint fell off and of course, paint got all over the parking lot. Now, I had to go back in and get another gallon. Luckily, I didn't have to pay for the second gallon. Then I did food shopping....always fun on a Sunday. When I got back home, I planted my scrub before it started to pour. Not a very exciting weekend, very typical for me.

Busy as ever! BUT Friday evening and all day yesterday I spent at a Women Of Faith confrence in Rochester NY. Wow! Ten thousand women all in one arena and some awesome speakers and music. I went with four girl-friends(actually 10,000!) and we had such a great time. I have been so fried lately but had this on my calender for weeks because I knew if I did not set this time aside, something else would crop up.If any one is interested, you can check out www.womenoffaith.com (I think) what a great organization. I am already setting the weekend aside for next year!
Today? Finally some rain in Western NY. It has been very hot and dry so it was lovely to sit on the front porch, watch the rain and feel the temperature go down. And start one of the books that I bought at the conference. Can one have too many books? I think not!
Hope everyone has a good week!
Angie.

jenny .. i got up at 6 a.m. to water my plants .. didn't think i could take the 'dog-day heat' .. never did get that mulch spread! was in and out of the house all morning .. doin' a little cleanin' (having friends over this weekend) .. finishing dollies .. and THEN i went to town to meet my friend for lunch .. i swear .. with this 'slow' and 'fast' time .. it can get corn-fusing sometime. i live in slow time (central) .. if i turn left .. i'm in slow time .. unless i turn left again .. then i enter fast time. if i turn right i go into fast time .. unless i turn left again .. then back to slow time!

well .. i was an hour EARLY .. sat and waited .. sugars dropped to 45 .. rushed to get a sugar coke .. back on time .. but my friend thought i wasn't meeting her .. cuz' i didn't hear her phone message to me! lordy! i sure coulda' used that extra time here at the house! but ahhhh welllll .. things happen like they are supposed to .. welllll .. except for those sugar drops!

wow! your brunch sure sounds yummy! o.k. .. i gotta' admit .. i'm glad i don't have to add 'utter cleanin' to my 'to-do' list! xo

My Weekend....We are having a room addition built and I made the in hind sight questionable suggestion that gee we should reuse that brick from the chimney that had to be taken down. Well we spend two hours every morning cleaning brick, about half the pile is done and I am worn out. Next time someone else can do it. Later I made potato salad to eat with some grilled hot dogs and took the dogs out the back gate for a swim in the lake. Did some gardening and took a nap. Sunday....same thing except today I don't have to make the potato salad just eat it. LOL

MaryAnn Hang in there, this too shall pass. The best advice I was ever given on being a parent is that "the hardest child to love is the one that needs love the most". He will find his way inspite of himself.

Hang in there MaryAnn,
Your son is the only one who can decide which path he takes in life. As a parent we want to "make things better" but sadly we can't. Just continue to wrap him in prayers.
As for your furbabies, Toby & "Chicken Killer" or "problem child", don't ya love the adventures we get in life with our beloved furbabies?.
God Bless,

MaryAnn, so sorry to hear you are a bit down. It is not easy to see the kids going through so much so young. Lets just hope he will get another chance soon and that it would be just another experience. If I can do anything to cheer you up, just call.

Yesterday I wandered around our farmer's market with my friend, Eva who is visiting from Raleigh NC. Then she and Nora ended up taking a good long nap. I didn't get a whole lot done around the house, just enjoying having a friend staying with us.

Today we are going to walk around one of the cool neighborhoods here in town so I can show her my favorite houses. Then we are going to jump in the car and go see the Castle (yup, Moscow has a real castle!). I am hoping we can hang out in the garden a bit today as the weeds are starting to think I water and work the soil just for them! Yikes! I also need to get some laundry going and start planning on what to take on my trip! Maybe a quick stop at the mall and good will to see if there is some cheap luggage out there. I am realizing that traveling to Wyoming is going to take more luggage that I am used to taking.

Yesterday I went for a 4 hr bike ride with some friends...did a bit of weeding...planted a few more things and then made a strawberry rubarb pie. Today I am going to walk the dogs, work in the garden some more if it doesn't rain and the hopefully get to some craft stuff.

I am feeling kinda blue (long story has to do with my youngest son getting booted of his lacrosse team and out of school...he was on track to win states, graduate, prom and off to college practically for free on scholarships....then a few weeks back this all happened and now he is staying a few towns over, working as a dishwasher and probably just frinking and smoking weed...it is so sad...anyway wish I had a friend visiting to cheer me up...but most of my friends live 4+hrs away and all my family is passed awayor far away. My best friend is coming in a few weeks so I do look forward to that.

Wow, everyone has had a busy sat. I milked, and cleaned up. Feed the other critters, made butter, washed couple loads of clothes. My sister called, and asked if I wanted to ride along to the greenhouse! sure. Got 3 wave petunias for a basket, and a pretty purple african daisy. stopped at a garage sale, the only one on the way, got a pretty tablecloth, and 2 FREE HALF APRONS, yippee my thrill of the day. Spent a quarter on the tablecloth, which had a small stain, and some repair, but is still bright and beautiful. Rode my bike up to check cows, milked and cleaned up again, and put flower baskets under the evergreens, a storm was predicted. Just got a quarter inch of rain out of it, so that was okay.

Not sure where the day will take me today. Still cloudy. Too wet to till the gardens, so maybe some house work! :( Michele

Does anyone else feel like their days just fly by? I was up early this morning, tidied the house and hung the laundry on the clothes line, then headed outside. We got 50 new laying hens yesterday, so made sure all was well with them and then did the mowing. Mixed the lawn clippings with the old chicken manure/hay and created a bomb I think...it was steaming hot by supper time.
My youngest daughter came out this aft with her boyfriend and his new truck. I don't think he was impressed when I asked him if I could haul manure in it <evil grin>! They spent the aft scrubbing and setting up the above ground pool and stayed for supper. We went to the country store and bought some locally made sausage and bbq-ed it and put it in buns like hotdogs. I eased by conscience by making an orzo and vegetable salad to go with it.
After dinner I put the pump into the tanks in the greenhouse (they floated above ground in the winter flood) and pumped them out. I'm going to take the biggest one, cut it down and make a duck pond out of it...that's my latest project. It has a drain in the bottom, so it should work fairly well and be easy to keep clean...in theory anyway! :)
Then dh and I took the weekly stack of newspapers and some old straw bales and mulched all the squash plants. I tried doing some hoe-ing, but it was so muggy and the no-see-ums found me so I quit and came in and had my shower.
Tomorrow...I so need to get at the weeding!

Today was alot different than I planned..but a busy day. It has been hot here (I am overheating if it is over 80...which it was!!) The kids and I got the garden and flowers all watered this morning (not too early..it was my one day to sleep just a little later today and I took advantage!!) while husband hauled a load to the dump for us and his brother...stuff I was glad he hauled off..he tends to be a "collector". (he got tired of my humming the Sanford and Son theme when he came out back) Then I came in and made a quick "brunch " of scrambled eggs with green onions and toast and juice and then the kids and I were back outside doing chores, and milking. They are good helpers with toting things and all..and oldest daughter cleaned out the "chick nursery" pen so we could take the little (not so little OR cute any more at three weeks old) chicks out this afternoon. There are 33 of them.THey had really outgrown their brooder in the cellar!! (they seem so so happy to be outside!!!) Then I got a call that a friend needed to go to the ER (post operative infection and alot of pain) so I picked her up and we were gone..gosh about 5 hours by the time we got home (hospital is 20 miles away and we had to stop for prescriptions and stuff on the way home) She is fine and home now. I sat down for a few minutes and then helped move the chicks outside. (husband got the light put in the house part of the chick nursery pen while I was gone) and then delivered some milk and checked on my friend and her little girl who it looked like either was stung by a bee or pinched her finger in something..we never could tell..but it was looking better when I left. Then came home and fed the kids and husband (a total cheater meal of burgers from the mom and pop place here in town) and got the milk jars washed and some more milk strained and put away...then took oldest daughter to visit a friend who just got out of the hospital and take that family some milk too.
Then got the kids all showered and in bed and sat down for a few minutes. Husband washed the milking equipment for me tonight (bless him) and I just came in from milking a few minutes ago. (I milk late...usually 11am and 11pm or thereabouts) whew. I meant to get my new seedlings and some seeds planted today..but they are fine and can wait until tomorrow or Monday. The kids like to help with that so it will go quickly.
So..that's my weekend SO far. haha I think I will knit for a little while tonight..knitting brown alpaca socks for my husband with yarn from Grace Gerber...wonderful stuff!!
I have some laundry going now too...udder cleaning rags..that will go on the line first thing in the morning. I got quite a bit of laundry done in the last couple days, which is sure nice..I hate getting behind and it is easy to do that!!
