I guess the microwave bags of popcorn were too old. The first one burnt before it had completely popped and the second did too. Now the house smells like burnt popcorn.
I washed out the microwave and placed a small bowl with vinegar on the counter. It will take a while but the vinegar will get rid of the odors. Well open windows later, too.
I also put drops of essential oil in a spray bottle of water and spray rooms. Is anyone else concerned about the chemicals in Febreze and other rooms sprays, as well as the laundry add-ins you see in commercials?

I made a fabric refresher from 1 c. water, 1/2 c. vodka, 10 drops each of lemon and lavender essential oils. It works great! Smells great! and. . .uses up any cheap vodka that gets brought over to Holiday parties!
So far, it has been safe to use on all of my things.

I want to vent a little bit. Have you seen those laundry commercials that say their product will make your clothes smell fresh for weeks? Maybe that's just for city folk who don't have mud or sweat or friendly dogs.
And then another commercial stokes fears about our clothes "not being completely clean". What do they mean by that? Sterilized? As long as my clothes look clean, as far as I'm concerned they are clean.
Whew! Thank you- the Woman Who Is Easily Irritated is gone now.

Another trick I read about when we were selling our house is to simmer water with cinnamon in it. The house will smell like Christmas. I bet you could substitute lemon or orange peel.

Sara - I don't even know the story but I can not quit laughing!

I like using oils too. I have a diffuser that I use a lot. I never tried the vinegar trick though - I don't have any ceiling fans so I should be safe to try it. I have put out some baking soda before because I heard it's suppose to absorb odors.

Vanessa, I too use vinegar to freshen the air. I wet a rag with white vinegar, wring it out if I have to, and start slinging it in the air. Watch out for ceiling fans. That's a story for another day.
