I just got done trying out a recipe for removing that nasty mystery stuff on your bathtub. I learned before that it's a combination (in my geographic area) of soap and minerals. That's why soap scum remover never seems to get the job done and the same with lime/mineral (Lime A Way, CLR) removers.

So I tried this knowing it wasn't a 2 second solution.
Equal parts vinegar & water. I used 1/2 cup each.

Cornstarch
I mixed in corn starch to the water before incorporating it into the vinegar.

Heated that on the stove until it got the thickness I wanted.

Dishsoap
I used a couple of drops of Dawn.

I "painted" this on to the horizontal surface of my bathtub ledge. I let it sit until the next day. It took days of using my power drill & scrub brush to get it clean, but it came off.
