Posted - Jul 06 2016 : 11:50:58 AM I was at the grocery store last night and took my usual trip down the canning aisle to see if there was anything that caught my eye, and I spotted a brick of something I'd never heard of - Gulf Wax. Apparently it is (or was) used for canning, but also has a lot of other uses, such as lubricating sliding parts, waxing skis, and some decorative uses.
I looked it up online when I got home and found that there is much more to do with paraffin wax than I'd realized, which made me wonder...
Has anybody here used this or something like it? Do you have any recommendations for what to use it for, or to not use it for? I was thinking about making a couple emergency/camping firestarters.
Here are a couple of the pages I've found with info/suggestions:

Posted - Jul 06 2016 : 12:00:04 PM I keep having intentions to make firestarters - cardboard egg carton, dryer lint, wax. Pack the egg cups of the carton with lint, pour melted wax over to make it a solid deal. Cut the carton apart to give you 12 starters.
