This evening I had a chance to use the old potato trick to unscrew the metal end of a light bulb from a lamp socket.

It was a comedy of errors but really not very funny. Annie my five month old puppy was bored with her toys so she gnawed on the plaster wall in my guest/computer room. What in the world made her want to do that?

I came into the room - yelled at her - she bumped the table and knocked the lamp off - breaking the bulb off at metal part and I'm grateful the bulb didn't shatter. After I calmed down I remembered to use a potato to unscrew the metal piece. It worked - the lamp wasn't hurt so a new bulb worked.

Oh, yes, Annie is still under my computer table. She knows she did a very bad no no.

Krista, I have used it several times through out the years.

Rachel I was so caught up in the moment I forgot to say how to do it. Thanks for letting me know so I can tell others know how to do the trick.

Since my computer table lamp is from the Dollar Store, the socket isn't very large so I used a small red potato. Pressed it into the socket and turned what was left of the the bulb end until it came out.

I had to look this up because I wasn't sure what the trick was- what a clever idea! Will be holding on to that one in case I ever need it.

It's not very often you get to try this trick. I would have completely forgotten. Glad you remembered and everything turned out fine!
