An older lady farmer friend of mine here told me this neat way of getting a loose screw to tighten up or to make a screw hole smaller. Take some fabric or cotton batting or a cotton ball, soak it with glue (the "regular" white kind) and stuff it in the hole, then let it dry for a day or two, depending on the size of the hole, and, voila! A new surface into which that screw will go tightly!

XOXO, Libbie

I kept having a drawer handle pop off because the screw was a bit stripped and I did not have the proper size to hold it other than the stripped screw that came with the handle....

so I used liquid nail over and over and it still was no help with fixing the problem...

finally I ran across an article in a magazine that said to use clear nail polish applied to the screw...

wallah! no more trouble with the drawer handle! worked like a charm and has held on for months now!

previously I was attaching the handle with liquid nail every few days and it would still fall off!

but good old nail polish...who da thunk it?

my husband does something similar but he use toothpicks with glue fills the hole then a day or two later puts the screw back in that way it has something substantial to bite into

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe my blog http://sunshinescreations.blogspot.com

Another idea, along those same lines and which I learned from my father, is to break off the end of a wooden match into a hole that is too loose. Then put the screw in and tighten it up. It works!

Excellent tip!

Here's my tip: 'Righty tighty, lefty loosey.' That's the phrase to remind which way to turn the screwdriver!!! (I'm a bit of a scatterbrain when doing home repairs.)

Libbie,
You should write a book on this stuff!
