Posted - Jul 15 2010 : 5:52:26 PM I wanted to share what I use for washing fresh fruits and veggies, especially those purchased in a grocery store. I read about this several years ago on Care2 and have used it ever since. You need two spray bottles. Mark them one and two. Fill the first bottle with Heinz vinegar (or make sure not made from petroleom-I learned that one from MaryJanes magazine one month) Fill the second bottle with hydrogen peroxide. Spray your fruit or veggies (I work out of a colander) with the first bottle, and then again with the second bottle, and then rinse well in cold water.
I found this to work well, no after taste, and very economical over the purchased washes.

Posted - Dec 02 2010 : 6:47:18 PM As a person who mostly eats fresh fruits and veggies raw, I am always very concerned about cleaning them well (I even wash avocados before cutting into them so I don't drag any microbes from the peel into the pulp.) I'll give this a try (it sounds good). Thanks.

Posted - Aug 01 2010 : 7:57:59 PM Thanks for your recipe. I use one that I got a few years ago from Whole Foods: 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. I keep it in a spray bottle and it works great.
The best part of these homemade brews is how much $ they save, not to mention knowing exactly what is in them!

Posted - Aug 01 2010 : 1:58:12 PM I don't buy too much anymore with that wax on it, but I have used it on all kinds of berries, grapes-and such-I just bought some apples from the store will see about the wax-the biggest thing is it gets rid of the e coli risk

Posted - Aug 01 2010 : 12:25:49 PM I was wondering if this takes the waxy coating off the fruit? How would it do on fuzzy fruit like peaches or apricots? Thanks for the info, Carol
